Yanglingquan (阳陵泉) is the He-Sea point of the Gallbladder Meridian and a meeting point of the tendons. The Huangdi Neijing states: “To treat internal organs, use the He points; if the pathogen is in the organ, use the He point”; “For gallbladder diseases, whether hot or cold, use Yanglingquan.” Therefore, this He point can be used to treat liver and gallbladder diseases and gallbladder-related symptoms.

When lying supine with the lower limbs slightly flexed, locate it in the depression anterior to the head of the fibula.

【Key Point for Treating Gallbladder-Related Symptoms】

Yanglingquan is the He point of the Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian and also a meeting point of the tendons, which has the effects of soothing the liver and gallbladder, clearing damp-heat, and relaxing the tendons and joints. As stated in the Huangdi Neijing: “For gallbladder diseases, there is often sighing, bitter mouth, vomiting of sour fluids, a feeling of oppression below the heart, fear of being captured, a feeling of fullness in the throat, and frequent spitting. For those with a weak pulse, moxibustion should be applied to Yanglingquan, whether hot or cold.” This point is essential for treating gallbladder-related symptoms. Since the liver and gallbladder are interrelated, this point is also effective for treating rib pain caused by Qi stagnation and blood stasis, as noted in the Miscellaneous Points Song: “For rib pain, just use Yanglingquan.”.

The name Yanglingquan is derived from its location. The Foot Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian is a Yang meridian, the lateral side of the knee is Yang, and the head of the fibula resembles a mound; thus, the depression below it is like a spring, hence the name.

【Special Note】

When massaging Yanglingquan, it is essential to feel the Qi sensation, which is a feeling of soreness, fullness, and numbness.

The Huangdi Neijing states: “For tendon tightness, Yanglingquan is the main point.” The Song of the Twenty Points of Ma Danyang also states: “For knee swelling and numbness, cold bi syndrome, and hemiplegia, needling 6 points stops the pain, the miraculous effect is different.” Therefore, moxibustion at Yanglingquan is a very effective method for improving lower limb swelling and pain.
