What is Health Preservation?

Health preservation is about nurturing life🌠 During the day, we expend energy, and at night we restore it. Daytime is for discharging energy, while nighttime sleep is for recharging. If you only recharge 50% at night but expend 100% during the day, where does that extra 50% come from? It has to be borrowed from the five organs.🌠 The five organs, referred to as the five stores in ancient texts, are where the essence of the body is stored. This essence is the nutrients stored in the body. If we keep borrowing, generally, after 15 years, the body will collapse. So, when we are young, we feel nothing, but by the time we reach our forties or fifties, illnesses arise.🌠 Thus, health preservation is about nurturing life🌠 Health preservation cannot make you look ten years younger immediately, but in ten years, while those around you have aged ten years, you will still look the same as today.🌠 Health preservation cannot cure your diseases immediately, but in ten years, while those around you may have passed away, you will still look the same as today.🌠 Health preservation cannot make you wealthy immediately, but in ten years, while those around you are going bankrupt due to medical expenses, you will live freely without worries.🌠 This is not alarmism, but the reality! Health is the greatest wealth in life! The primary focus of health preservation is nurturing Qi and BloodThe most important aspect of human health is the concept of “Qi and Blood”. All diseases in our body arise from issues with Qi and Blood. From minor ailments like fever and cold to major issues like tumors and thrombosis, the main cause of these diseases is the stagnation or deficiency of Qi and Blood. The human body relies on Qi and Blood for nourishment; when Qi flows, Blood flows; when Qi stagnates, Blood clots. When Qi and Blood are sufficient and flow smoothly, a person will be healthy and live long; otherwise, one is prone to illness. As long as Qi and Blood are harmonious, the body will naturally not have problems. Therefore, we say that the most important aspect of health preservation is nurturing Qi and Blood. When Qi and Blood are balanced, the body remains healthy, and diseases do not arise; when Qi and Blood are unbalanced, strange diseases emerge, causing immense suffering. All health issues stem from the stagnation or deficiency of Qi and Blood; all bodily issues must be addressed by ensuring smooth Qi and Blood flow and replenishing Qi and Blood. As long as we ensure the smooth flow of Qi and Blood, we can prevent all diseases; as long as we replenish Qi and Blood, the body’s self-healing ability will automatically activate and take effect. Qi and Blood are the foundation of life; the body’s organs, bones, meridians, and even hair and skin all depend on the nourishment of Qi and Blood. Without Qi and Blood, there is no life.

Health preservation emphasizes the smooth flow of meridiansSo, how can we ensure that Qi and Blood flow smoothly without reversal? This must be addressed from the perspective of meridians. We know that the pathways for Qi and Blood flow are the meridians; if Qi and Blood do not flow smoothly, they will become blocked. At this point, the most important thing is to unblock the obstructed meridians. Therefore, one of the most emphasized terms in Traditional Chinese Medicine is “unblocking the meridians”.Meridians in the human body function like the internet. The main meridians are deeply hidden within the body, controlling the various organs; the collateral meridians are small branches of the main meridians, connecting directly to the surface of the body. Although they are invisible and intangible, they resemble a vast internet. Acupuncture points are like various stations on this network, and Qi and Blood are the locomotives traveling between these stations, always displaying a “no stop” sign. Once they stop, only a doctor can take on the role of network administrator.Health preservation values the balance of organsThe five organs and six bowels are undoubtedly the hardware of the human body. The organs have Yin and Yang distinctions; the five organs are Yin as they are internal; the six bowels are Yang as they are external. The five organs refer to the heart, lungs, spleen, liver, and kidneys. The five organs have the functions of transforming and storing essence and Qi, as well as housing the spirit and will. Although their physiological functions differ, the various physiological functions of the five organs are interdependent and mutually restrictive, maintaining the coordination and balance of their physiological activities. The six bowels refer to the gallbladder, stomach, small intestine, large intestine, bladder, and san jiao (triple burner). Their common function is to receive, digest, and excrete waste from food. What is Health Preservation? The various physiological functions of the five organs and six bowels are interdependent and mutually restrictive, maintaining the coordination and balance of physiological activities in the body. Generally, even when diseases occur, the body can cope adequately. Of course, not all diseases can be cured by the body itself; some require medication, surgery, or psychological interventions. In most cases, external pathogenic factors and medications play only a part in the occurrence and treatment of diseases, while the body’s own role is primary. Traditional Chinese Medicine believes: “When righteous Qi is present, evil cannot invade.” If the righteous Qi within the body is sufficient, then evil Qi will not disrupt the balance of Yin and Yang within. The organs have a collaborative ability to support each other; if one function is disordered, the Qi mechanism of the body will lose balance, leading to disharmony of Yin and Yang, stagnation of Qi and Blood, failure of clear Qi to rise, and turbid Qi to descend, preventing circulation, resulting in illness throughout the body. All five organs and six bowels require the nourishment of Qi and Blood and the smooth flow of meridians to function normally; sufficient Qi and Blood depend on healthy organs to provide. Therefore, the foundation of health lies in Qi and Blood; to achieve good health, one must ensure sufficient Qi and Blood, smooth meridians, and balanced organs.
