There is a condition that can lead to various diseases, such as hypertension and heart disease. This condition is “obesity”! Today, I will teach you a Gua Sha weight loss method that does not require dieting or exercise!
Gua Sha for Weight Loss:
1. Choose the right Gua Sha board:
There are several types of Gua Sha boards available in the market, including jade, Bian stone, and cow horn. How should we choose among them?
The jade board is suitable for facial and pediatric use, as it is rounded and has the effects of clearing heat, moisturizing the skin, and beautifying. The Bian stone is heavy, produces less Sha, and the strong penetrating infrared rays are beneficial to the body. The cow horn board can be used for pressing, produces more Sha, and has the effects of clearing heat and detoxifying, as well as resolving stasis and reducing swelling. For weight loss, we can use the cow horn Gua Sha board.
Distinguishing Obesity Types:
From a TCM perspective, there are two types of obesity: deficiency and excess. How can we distinguish whether we have deficiency-type or excess-type obesity?
1. Deficiency-type obesity: Phlegm-damp type symptoms
The body state is characterized by:poor appetite.
feeling of fullness in the stomach.feeling of bloating in the abdomen.in the morning, feeling like there is phlegm in the throat, sticky, and fatigue.
Stool:mostly soft stools, with frequent bowel movements.
2. Excess-type obesity: Stomach-heat type symptoms
The body state is characterized by:easily hungry.
good appetite.always wanting to eat.excess stomach acid or bad breath.
Stool: prone to constipation.
Gua Sha for Weight Loss Based on Body Type
1. Acupuncture points for weight loss in deficiency-type with dampness: Tianshu (天枢), Daimai (带脉), Fenglong (丰隆)
2. Acupuncture points for weight loss in excess-type with stomach heat: Tianshu (天枢), Daimai (带脉), Neiting (内庭)
Tianshu point:Tianshu is an acupuncture point on the stomach meridian and is also the Mu point of the large intestine, located in the abdomen, level with the navel, 2 inches lateral to the navel, which is the width of three fingers.
When scraping, relax your belt to allow the abdominal muscles to naturally relax. Scrape from top to bottom, using the left hand to scrape the right side and the right hand to scrape the left side, in a single downward direction at a 45-degree angle, within a range of 5 cm above and below the acupuncture point.
Daimai point:Daimai is located on the side of the abdomen, at the intersection of the vertical line below the free end of the 11th rib and the horizontal line of the navel. A simple way to locate it is to draw a vertical line from the front of the armpit to the intersection with the horizontal line of the navel.
By scraping Tianshu and Daimai, you can help stimulate the waist and abdomen, accelerate fat metabolism, and achieve significant effects on weight loss in the waist and abdomen, while also promoting intestinal peristalsis, which is beneficial for those with constipation-type obesity.
Fenglong point:If you have a deficiency-type with dampness, scrape Fenglong to resolve phlegm and reduce fat. Fenglong is located 2 finger widths lateral to the tibia, on the outer side of the lower leg.
For scraping Fenglong, use the method of scraping from top to bottom, within a 10 cm range above and below the Fenglong point, following the meridian pathway, and apply more pressure in this area.
Neiting point:Neiting is the Ying point of the Stomach Meridian, located in the depression at the junction of the 2nd and 3rd metatarsal bones on the dorsum of the foot.
Neiting scraping method: Use the short edge of the Gua Sha board for short-distance linear scraping, or apply pressure and knead.
