“I need to adjust my health, I have Spleen Qi deficiency!” Many people around me often attribute their discomfort to “Spleen Qi deficiency.”Is it really Spleen Qi deficiency, or is the Spleen being blamed unfairly?
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) believes that the Spleen is responsible for the transformation and transportation of nutrients, blood regulation, and the elevation of clear Qi. If its function is impaired, corresponding symptoms will manifest. As the weather gets hotter,if you often feel fatigued, heavy in the body, and lack appetite, it is likely due to Spleen Qi deficiency.
When the Spleen is deficient, the Spleen Qi does not rise, and the Stomach Qi does not descend, leading to dysfunction of the Spleen and Stomach, which can easily cause abdominal distension, poor appetite; loose stools, weight loss, fatigue, and mental lethargy.

What Causes Spleen Qi Deficiency?

Now that living conditions have improved, why do people become increasingly “deficient,” especially with “Spleen Qi deficiency”?It is mainly related to these three factors:
🔸 First, our dietary elements have become more diverse, overeating or frequently consuming fried, spicy, sweet, overly salty, or cold foods, inadvertently increases the burden on the Spleen, leading to impaired Spleen function and resulting in Spleen Qi deficiency.
🔸 Second, modern people have significantly reduced physical activity, prolonged sitting or lying down, muscle atrophy or lack of nourishment to the muscles and tendons can weaken Spleen Qi,
resulting in Spleen Qi deficiency. The Spleen governs the muscles and fills the four limbs, so these individuals often experience weakness in their limbs and flaccid muscles.
🔸 Finally, modern people face high levels of stress, excessive worry and overthinking can harm the Spleen, which also increases the likelihood of Spleen Qi deficiency.

Drink Spleen-Strengthening Tea
For those with Spleen Qi deficiency, you can regularly use roasted Astragalus (Huang Qi), Poria (Fu Ling), and fried Atractylodes (Bai Zhu) together,to brew a decoction as a tea or add it to soups.
Astragalus not only tonifies Qi but also helps to elevate Spleen Yang; Poria drains dampness and strengthens the Spleen; Atractylodes strengthens the Spleen and benefits Qi.Those with Qi deficiency or Spleen deficiency can use this method to tonify Qi and strengthen the Spleen, making summer more comfortable.

Pat the Hips
The Huangdi Neijing states:“If the Spleen has evil, its Qi lingers in the hips.”That is, if there is a disease in the Spleen and Stomach, there will inevitably be evil Qi stagnating in the hips.
The hips refer to the groin area where the inner thigh meets the lower abdomen,to dispel the pathogenic Qi of the Spleen, the simplest method is to relax both palms and gently and rhythmically pat the hips, applying light pressure for 3 to 5 minutes.
This can accelerate the circulation of Qi and blood, eliminate pathogenic factors, help transform dampness, regulate the Spleen and Stomach Qi mechanism, elevate clear Qi and descend turbid Qi, keeping the mind clear and alert in summer.
