What is Yin Deficiency Constitution?
Yin deficiency (Yin xu), in contrast to Yang deficiency (Yang xu), refers to the depletion of Yin fluids such as body fluids and blood, leading to a reduction in the nourishing and moistening functions, which can result in symptoms like frequent heat sensations and dry mouth. Over time, this can develop into a Yang deficiency constitution.
Yin and Yang are interdependent; prolonged Yin deficiency can harm Yang, resulting in both Yin and Yang deficiency.
Typical Manifestations of Yin Deficiency Constitution
Symptoms include sensitivity to heat, burning sensations in the palms and soles, preference for cool drinks, night sweats, constipation, irritability, insomnia, dry mouth and throat, frequent heat sensations, dry eyes, decreased vision, dizziness, weakness in the lower back and knees, emotional instability, irritability, and easy anger.
Foods to Avoid for Yin Deficiency Constitution
1. Avoid warm, spicy, and dry foods;
2. Avoid fried and stir-fried items;
3. Avoid foods that are hot and heat-inducing;
4. Avoid foods high in fat and carbohydrates.
Recommended Foods for Yin Deficiency Constitution
Individuals with Yin deficiency should consume more cooling and nourishing foods; they should eat sweet, cool, and moistening foods that generate fluids and nourish Yin; fresh vegetables and fruits high in fiber and vitamins are recommended; foods rich in high-quality protein should also be included.
Exercise Recommendations for Yin Deficiency Constitution
Exercise is very beneficial for improving health, promoting blood circulation, alleviating discomfort, and regulating emotions, making it particularly suitable for individuals with Yin deficiency. Recommended exercises include swimming, Ba Duan Jin (Eight Pieces of Brocade), and Tai Chi.
