Traditional Chinese Medicine Tuina: Protecting Your Brain Health!

Traditional Chinese Medicine Tuina: Protecting Your Brain Health!

The brain occupies a central position in the normal physiological functions and psychological activities of the human body; therefore, maintaining brain health is crucial for ensuring overall physical and mental well-being.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the brain is regarded as the “Sui Hai” (髓海), further emphasizing its status as an important organ in the body. To care for the brain daily, the Acupuncture Rehabilitation Treatment Center of Hunan Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine offers an effective health maintenance method—TCM Tuina (推拿). Through professional TCM Tuina techniques, you can protect your brain health!

“Na Wu Jing, Dian Bai Hui, An Feng Chi, Rou Tai Yang, Xun Lie Que”

1. “Na Wu Jing” is one of the classic TCM massage techniques, utilizing the five fingers to act on the Du Meridian (督脉), Bladder Meridian (膀胱经), and Gallbladder Meridian (胆经) on the head. This technique can help to unblock the meridians and improve the circulation of Qi and blood in the head, achieving the effects of unblocking the meridians and resisting external pathogens.

(1) The specific steps include:

① Spread the five fingers to form a shape similar to an eagle’s claw, with the middle finger pointing at the Du Meridian, the index and ring fingers on either side of the Bladder Meridian, and the thumb and little finger on the Gallbladder Meridian.

② Apply pressure with the fingertips in a tapping and kneading manner for 5-10 seconds until a noticeable soreness is felt.

③ Relax the fingertips and move the five fingers vertically upward about 1 cm, then apply pressure again.

④ Repeat this process starting from the hairline to the base of the skull, generally recommended for 20-30 times.

⑤ Finally, use your fingers as a comb to brush from the front hairline to the back hairline, generally combing 4 times.

① Use the middle or index finger of one hand to press on Bai Hui.
