After a month of consistent abdominal massage, my intestines became smooth, my appetite improved, my sleep quality increased, and my mental state relaxed, leading to an overall boost in my vitality.
Mr. Wang, 67, has been experiencing dizziness and discomfort, along with abdominal bloating for five to six years, with symptoms worsening recently due to fluctuating weather. He also developed chest tightness, bitter mouth, reduced appetite, a feeling of heaviness, irregular bowel movements, and frequent urination, waking up 5-6 times a night, difficulty falling asleep, and easy awakening. His pulse was wiry and slippery, his tongue was enlarged with teeth marks, and his coating was white.
Mr. Wang consulted a TCM specialist and received Tui Na therapy for his internal organs alongside acupuncture treatment. After one month of treatment by Dr. Xing Yaqing, Mr. Wang’s symptoms significantly improved.
Indications for Internal Organ and Meridian Tui Na
The abdomen is a convergence point for meridians and acupoints, which connect to all internal organs and systems in the body. Therefore, Tui Na for internal organs and meridians can treat not only abdominal diseases but also systemic conditions.
1. Deficient Cold Constitution (e.g., fear of cold, cold extremities, clear and frequent urination) Tui Na can promote the smooth flow of Qi and blood throughout the meridians, improve menstrual irregularities, cold hands and feet, gastric coldness, insomnia, headaches, and delay aging, postponing menopause.
2. Gynecological Issues (e.g., dysmenorrhea, menstrual irregularities, cold uterus leading to infertility)
3. Endocrine Issues (e.g., dull, rough skin, pigmentation, acne, obesity) Tui Na can eliminate abdominal fat, restore body shape, slim the waist, and enhance breast firmness, while effectively treating acne and pigmentation, resulting in healthier skin tone.
4. Gastrointestinal Disorders (e.g., constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, bloating) It enhances gastrointestinal peristalsis, improves constipation and loose stools, strengthens digestion and absorption, and eliminates toxins accumulated in the intestines.
5. Emotional Disorders (e.g., insomnia, anxiety, depression)
6. Boosting Immunity Tui Na can enhance the body’s basal metabolic function, effectively preventing issues related to high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and high cholesterol, and provides excellent auxiliary treatment for many stubborn diseases such as pulmonary heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, coronary heart disease, diabetes, nephritis, and pyelonephritis.
What should you do if you experience poor appetite, poor sleep, and difficulty with bowel movements?
Learn these Tui Na techniques and save them for future reference!
(1) Pressing and Rubbing Along the Meridians: The patient can lie flat, while the practitioner can choose to stand or sit, using both palms to rub from the armpits down to the Tian Shu (天枢) point. Repeat 50-100 times.
This technique can soothe the liver, regulate Qi, resolve phlegm, relieve chest tightness, and treat conditions such as chest tightness, rib pain, phlegm-induced wheezing, and liver-spleen enlargement. It is also effective for children with chest tightness and abdominal bloating caused by food stagnation, phlegm accumulation, and Qi counterflow. If there is liver-spleen enlargement, prolonged rubbing is necessary. However, it should be used cautiously for those with Qi deficiency or kidney issues.
(2) Rubbing the Navel: The patient can lie flat, with the practitioner choosing to stand or sit, placing the left hand underneath and the right hand on top, palms overlapping, then placing the left palm over the navel. Both hands should rub in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction for 100 times each, applying moderate pressure to avoid abdominal pain. This technique can regulate Qi, calm the mind, and promote intestinal peristalsis, treating constipation, abdominal pain, bloating, and insomnia.
(3) Dividing Push of Yin and Yang in the Abdomen: The patient can lie flat, and the practitioner uses both thumbs to push along the edges of the rib cage or from the Zhong Wan (中脘) point to the navel, pushing outward to both sides for 50-100 times. This technique can strengthen the spleen and stomach, regulate Qi, and aid digestion, treating abdominal pain, bloating, indigestion, nausea, and vomiting.
(4) Rubbing the Zhong Wan and Tian Shu Points
Zhong Wan: Located in the upper abdomen, on the midline, four inches above the navel. The patient lies supine, first locating the xiphoid process, which is the depression formed by the body of the sternum and the xiphoid process. The distance from the xiphoid process to the navel is eight inches, and the midpoint is the Zhong Wan point. Rubbing the Zhong Wan point can promote Qi flow, alleviate nausea, tonify Qi, calm the mind, and treat bloating, diarrhea, stomach pain, hiccups, and insomnia.
Tian Shu: Located two inches beside the navel. The patient lies supine, using the natural method to locate the point by bringing three fingers together to measure two inches from the navel. Rubbing the Tian Shu point can regulate the large intestine, promote Qi flow, and treat acute and chronic gastroenteritis, diarrhea, vomiting, food stagnation, constipation, abdominal pain, bloating, menstrual irregularities, and dysmenorrhea.
