The Five Organs and Six Bowels on Your Hands – Daily Gua Sha
The hands are a microcosm of the human body, where corresponding positions of the five organs and six bowels can be found.
Each of the five fingers corresponds to six meridians: the Lung Meridian (Fei Jing), Large Intestine Meridian (Da Chang Jing), Pericardium Meridian (Xin Bao Jing), San Jiao Meridian (San Jiao Jing), Small Intestine Meridian (Xiao Chang Jing), and Heart Meridian (Xin Jing). Regularly scraping the fingers helps to unblock the meridians, improving the circulation of Qi and blood, leading to better health.
The method is particularly simple and can be done during work breaks or while relaxing and watching a show. You don’t necessarily need a Gua Sha board; any tool that provides a certain amount of pressure will suffice.
Scraping the Thumb
The thumb corresponds to the Lung Meridian, which governs Qi and respiration.
Technique: Apply Gua Sha oil to the outer side of the thumb, use a Gua Sha board to scrape along the outer side of the thumb, pulling outward for 2 to 3 minutes.
Effects: Regulates cough, chest tightness, asthma, and sore throat.
Scraping the Index Finger
The index finger corresponds to the Large Intestine Meridian, relating to the large intestine and stomach.
Technique: Apply Gua Sha oil to the outer side of the index finger, use a Gua Sha board to scrape along the outer side of the index finger, pulling outward for 2 to 3 minutes.
Effects: Regulates constipation, diarrhea, and indigestion.
Scraping the Middle Finger
The middle finger corresponds to the Pericardium Meridian, which governs the mind.
Poor sleep is also related to the Pericardium Meridian.
Technique: Use your hand (Gua Sha board/card) to scrape the inner side of the middle finger towards the fingertip. Continue for 1-2 minutes, and you may use plant oil as a lubricant.
Effects: Alleviates palpitations, chest pain, insomnia, and calms the mind.
Scraping the Ring Finger
The ring finger corresponds to the San Jiao Meridian, which governs the Qi of the entire body.
When Qi and blood flow smoothly, there is no pain.
Technique: Apply Gua Sha oil to the back of the hand and the outer side of the ring finger, using a Gua Sha board to scrape along the back of the ring finger for 2 to 3 minutes.
Effects: Regulates migraines and shoulder-neck pain.
Scraping the Little Finger
The little finger corresponds to the Heart and Small Intestine Meridian, reflecting the condition of the kidneys.
It indicates the status of the circulatory system.
Technique: Apply Gua Sha oil to the outer side of the little finger, use a Gua Sha board to scrape along the outer side of the little finger, pulling outward for 2 to 3 minutes.
Effects: Regulates immunity and aids in nutrient absorption.
