Hand Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian (Starts at Shaoze, Ends at Tinggong)

According to the Suwen: The Small Intestine Meridian of Hand Taiyang starts at the tip of the little finger, travels along the outer side of the hand, ascends to the wrist, exits at the middle of the ankle, goes straight up along the lower edge of the arm bone, exits between the two bones on the inner side of the elbow, ascends along the outer back edge of the upper arm, exits at the shoulder, encircles the scapula, crosses over the shoulder, enters the Jueyin (Heart), connects to the throat, descends to the diaphragm, reaches the stomach, and belongs to the Small Intestine; its branch follows from the Jueyin, travels up the neck to the cheek, reaches the inner canthus of the eye, and then enters the ear; another branch separates from the cheek, reaches the nose, and connects to the inner canthus of the eye, obliquely linking to the zygomatic bone.

1. *Shaoze (Jing)

Location: On the ulnar side of the tip of the little finger, 0.1 cun from the corner of the nail.

Indications: Headache, eye disorders, sore throat, deafness, tinnitus, breast abscess, insufficient lactation, coma, febrile diseases. It has the effects of clearing the heart and opening the orifices, draining heat and benefiting the throat, and promoting lactation.

2. *Houxu (Xing)

Location: On the ulnar side of the palm, slightly clenched fist, at the distal transverse crease of the palm behind the fifth metacarpophalangeal joint (the little finger joint).

Indications: Stiffness and pain in the head and neck, low back pain, red eyes, deafness, sore throat, epilepsy, night sweats, malaria, spasms of the fingers and elbow. It has the effects of dispelling wind and clearing heat, and promoting circulation and relieving pain.

3. Yanglao Point

Location: On the dorsal side of the forearm, on the ulnar side, in the depression near the proximal end of the ulnar styloid process. The method is to flex the elbow, palm facing the chest, at the radial side of the ulnar styloid process, at the level of the highest point of the ulnar styloid process.

Indications: Headache, facial pain, unclear vision, shoulder, back, and elbow pain, acute low back pain. It has the effects of promoting circulation and relieving pain, dispersing wind, and brightening the eyes.

4. *Tianzong

Location: At the scapular region, in the central depression of the infraspinatus fossa, level with the fourth thoracic vertebra.

Indications: Pain in the scapula, shortness of breath, breast abscess, pain on the outer back side of the elbow. It has the effects of relaxing the muscles and promoting circulation, and regulating Qi to open the chest.

5. *Bingfeng

Location: In the scapular area, above the midpoint of the scapular spine.

Indications: Pain in the scapula, numbness and pain in the upper limbs, and other scapular and upper limb conditions.

6. Qianliao

Location: On the face, below the zygomatic bone, in the depression directly below the outer canthus of the eye.

Indications: Facial asymmetry, eyelid twitching, toothache, facial pain, etc. It has the effects of boosting Qi and blood, invigorating the spirit, and providing facial care, which can prevent facial nerve paralysis and trigeminal neuralgia.

7. *Tinggong

Location: On the face, in front of the ear, behind the condylar process of the mandible, in the depression when the mouth is slightly open (between the midpoint of the ear and the condylar process of the mandible).

The method to locate is to slightly open the mouth, at the depression in front of the midpoint of the ear, between the ear gate and the Tinghui point.

Indications: Tinnitus, deafness, neurogenic deafness, otitis media, external ear canal inflammation, mutism, epilepsy, toothache, dizziness, and headache. It has the effects of opening the ears and calming the mind, and also relieving eye fatigue.

8. Tianrong

Location: In the neck, behind the angle of the mandible, in the depression at the anterior edge of the sternocleidomastoid muscle.

Indications: Tinnitus, deafness, sore throat, and other conditions of the five sense organs, as well as headache and stiffness in the neck.
