The basic features include a slender physique, dry eyes, dry throat, and heat in the palms and soles.Understanding Body Constitution for Health Preservation (Yin Deficiency Type)【Physical Characteristics】Moderate or slightly slender physique, but relatively firm.【Complexion Characteristics】Complexion is often slightly red or pale black, or the skin is oily, not afraid of cold, but sensitive to heat, with heat in the palms and soles, and prone to night sweats. The spirit is more excitable than in yang deficiency, with an irritable temperament, quick movements, responsive, extroverted, active, and poor self-control.【Psychological Characteristics】Irritable temperament, extroverted and active.【Dietary and Lifestyle Characteristics】Usually has poor sleep, prone to insomnia or frequent dreams. Appetite may be large, easily feeling hungry. Dry mouth and throat, red lips, dry nasal area. Prefers cold drinks, with dry and hard stools that are difficult to pass, and short yellow urine. It is advisable to choose foods that are sweet, cool in nature, and have the effect of nourishing yin essence. Meals should be light, avoiding fatty, rich, dry, and spicy foods.Foods to Avoid:Foods to minimize: lamb, beef, dog meat, shrimp, leeks, chili, scallions, garlic, sunflower seeds, etc. These foods are warming and drying, which can harm yin.Foods to Include:(1) The diet should be nourishing and light. Understanding Body Constitution for Health Preservation (Yin Deficiency Type)Medicinal Cuisine—Lily and He Shou Wu Calming Pork Rib Soup【Ingredients】500g pork ribs, 10g He Shou Wu (Polygonum multiflorum), 30g sour jujube seeds, 20g lily (Lilium), 15g Fu Shen (Poria), 2 slices of ginger, 1 tablespoon rice wine.【Preparation】Clean the pork ribs and blanch them in boiling water to remove blood. Crush the sour jujube seeds and place them with other herbs in a cloth bag; put the bag in a pot with enough water and soak for about 20 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients to the pot, bring to a boil over high heat, skim off the foam, then reduce to low heat and simmer for about 1 hour until the ribs are tender. Remove the herb bag and season with salt before serving.【Effects】Nourishes blood, calms, and aids sleep.【Usage】Serve with meals.Understanding Body Constitution for Health Preservation (Yin Deficiency Type)Medicinal Cuisine—Polygonatum and He Shou Wu Braised Sea Cucumber【Ingredients】25g Polygonatum (Polygonatum sibiricum), 25g He Shou Wu (Polygonum multiflorum), 500g sea cucumber, 8 ginkgo nuts, 500g bok choy, ginger slices, scallions, soy sauce, rock sugar, salt, and starch as needed.【Preparation】First, decoct the Polygonatum and He Shou Wu in 5 bowls of water until reduced to 2 bowls; blanch the bok choy and set aside. Heat oil in a pan, add scallions and ginger to sauté, then add the sea cucumber (cut into chunks) and ginkgo nuts, stir-fry until soft, then add the medicinal broth, 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, rock sugar, and salt to taste, bring to a boil, and thicken slightly before serving.【Effects】Nourishes kidney yin, relieves cough, and stops discharge.【Usage】Serve with meals.Understanding Body Constitution for Health Preservation (Yin Deficiency Type)Medicinal Cuisine—Sesame and Celery with Double Mushrooms【Ingredients】25g black fungus, 25g white fungus (dry weight), 1 teaspoon each of black and white sesame, 300g celery stalks, a little carrot, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/3 teaspoon sugar, and sesame oil as needed.【Preparation】Soak the black and white fungus in warm water until soft, clean, remove stems, and shred; cut celery into small diagonal pieces after removing leaves; shred the carrot. Blanch the black fungus, white fungus, celery, and carrot in hot water. Toast the black and white sesame until fragrant, slightly crush, then mix all ingredients with seasonings and marinate for about 30 minutes before serving.【Effects】Nourishes blood, generates fluids, and moistens dryness.【Usage】Serve with meals.Understanding Body Constitution for Health Preservation (Yin Deficiency Type)Medicinal Cuisine—Duck Bone and Lotus Root Soup【Ingredients】500g duck bones, 200g lean pork, 500g lotus root, 20g dried shiitake mushrooms, 50g fresh chestnuts (peeled), 50g dried jujubes, 50g lotus seeds, 40g dried shrimp, 50g dried bamboo shoots, 50g scallions, 50g ginger, 5g salt, 10g sugar, 10g cooking wine, and 3g monosodium glutamate.【Preparation】Clean the pork, cut into two pieces; clean the lotus root, peel, and cut into two sections; soak the shiitake mushrooms in water and clean; wash the dried bamboo shoots, jujubes, and lotus seeds. In a soup pot, add 2000g of water, bring to a boil, then add duck bones, pork, lotus root, shiitake mushrooms, dried bamboo shoots, dried shrimp, scallions, ginger, cooking wine, and sugar; after boiling, simmer on low heat for 1 hour; then add salt, chestnuts, lotus seeds, and jujubes, and cook for another hour.
