Morphological Characteristics
The mycelium is white and fluffy when young, turning light brown as it matures. The aerial mycelium is short and erect, often interwoven and densely penetrating the substrate. The sclerotium consists of an outer skin, inner skin, polysaccharide granule formation layer, and polysaccharide granule accumulation layer. The sclerotium serves as both a dormant and storage organ, which expands and grows upward, exposing itself above the soil surface, with mycelium growing and expanding on its surface, developing into fruiting bodies. The size of the fruiting bodies varies, lying flat on the surface of the sclerotium or mycelium, initially white and later light brown, with smooth, transparent spores.
03
Growth Environment
Propagated by mycelium, it is distributed in China, the Americas, Oceania, Japan, and some Southeast Asian countries. Major regions for artificial cultivation in China include Hunan, Hubei, Guizhou, Yunnan, Guangxi, Fujian, and Anhui provinces. Poria typically grows on the roots of pine trees, thriving in mid-altitude areas with cool, dry climates and sandy soils, on slopes of 10-35°.
