A handful of Poria, 14 uses, can treat spleen deficiency, duodenal ulcers, insomnia, forgetfulness, and other 10 effects.
Poria (Fu Ling) is the dried sclerotium of the fungus Poria cocos, harvested mainly from July to September. After excavation, the soil is removed, and it is piled up to “sweat” before being spread out to dry until the surface is dry, then “sweated” again, repeating several times until wrinkles appear and most of the internal moisture is lost, then it is dried in the shade, referred to as “Poria pieces”; or fresh Poria can be cut into different parts and dried in the shade, referred to as “Poria skin” and “Poria blocks”.
Poria Skin: The outer skin of Poria, varying in shape and size. The outer surface is brown to dark brown, while the inner surface is white or light brown. It is relatively soft and slightly elastic.
Poria Block: The Poria after peeling, cut into block shapes, varying in size. It is white, light red, or light brown.
Red Poria: The brownish-red or light red parts cut into blocks or slices.
