Ai Tiao Jiu (Moxa Stick Moxibustion)
Moxa Stick Moxibustion involves igniting a moxa stick and placing it on acupuncture points or affected areas to promote Qi and blood circulation for therapeutic effects. This method is simple to use and effective, making it a common practice in clinical settings.
◆Effects: Warming the meridians and dispelling cold, supporting Yang and stabilizing the body, resolving stasis and dissipating masses, disease prevention and health maintenance. ◆Indications: Chronic weakness and diseases caused by wind, cold, and dampness. ◆Contraindications: Excess conditions, heat syndromes, and Yin deficiency with fever.
Huo Long Jiu (Fire Dragon Moxibustion)
Fire Dragon Moxibustion is a thermal therapy performed on the Du (督脉) and Ren (任脉) meridians, as well as the Shen Que (神阙穴) point, based on traditional acupuncture theory, using burning methods or indirect moxibustion. It strengthens the true Yang, warms and promotes Qi and blood, harmonizes Yin and Yang, opens the meridians, invigorates blood circulation, and expels pathogens.
◆Indications: 1. Treatment of diseases including various cold and pain syndromes, such as cold intolerance, kidney deficiency back pain, indigestion, insomnia with vivid dreams, cervical spondylosis, lumbar disc herniation, rheumatic pain, knee pain, back muscle pain, arthritis, dysmenorrhea, abdominal pain, and gastric pain. Yang deficiency patients, including those with low back pain, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, urogenital disorders (infertility), low immunity, and chronic gastrointestinal diseases.
2. Regulating constitution and preventing diseases, especially for those engaged in mental labor, who due to an unscientific lifestyle, prolonged sitting, and limited exercise, and long-term use of air conditioning and heating, artificially reduce the climatic challenges of the four seasons, leading to imbalances in Yin and Yang and insufficient Yang Qi.
◆Characteristics and Advantages of Fire Dragon Moxibustion:
Fire Dragon Moxibustion resembles a fire dragon in operation, with a large heated area, deep and lasting heat, combining the effects of herbs, moxibustion, and meridians.
◆Precautions: 1. Caution in patients with Yin deficiency and excess heat, or tumors; 2. Avoid burns and ensure safety; 3. Maintain a light diet and avoid bathing on the day of treatment.
Tuo Jiu (Penetrating Moxibustion)
Penetrating Moxibustion is a technique summarized by Professor Gao Xiyan, a leader in the acupuncture discipline at Henan University of Chinese Medicine. This method is less painful and does not leave scars after treatment, showing significant efficacy in treating chronic diseases, previously referred to as “heavy moxibustion.” Recent explorations and studies suggest that heavy moxibustion is merely a quantitative concept, while penetrating moxibustion provides sufficient moxibustion and effectively penetrates the skin, unblocking meridians and regulating Qi and blood, hence the term “penetrating moxibustion” was proposed.
◆Effects of Penetrating Moxibustion:
Prevention and health maintenance, warming the meridians and dispelling cold, supporting Yang and stabilizing the body, resolving stasis and dissipating masses.
◆Indications: 1. Wind-cold-dampness obstruction causing pain, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, cold hernia, abdominal pain, shoulder, back, waist, and leg pain, rheumatic arthritis, joint pain, etc.; 2. External wind-cold causing colds, asthma, cough, etc.; abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and indigestion due to middle Jiao cold; 3. Insomnia, dizziness, and headaches due to Yin-Yang imbalance; chronic diarrhea, nocturnal diarrhea, chronic dysentery, enuresis, seminal emission, impotence, premature ejaculation due to Spleen and Kidney Yang deficiency; 4. Prolapse of internal organs, rectal prolapse, and prolonged bleeding due to Qi deficiency.
