Question from a netizen:
Teacher Feng Mingyu, I have a lot of phlegm in my body, what should I do? Upon waking, my throat feels sticky with yellow phlegm, and every winter I have chronic bronchitis due to phlegm, is there a way to resolve this?
The formation of phlegm-dampness is closely related to diet, in addition to congenital factors.
Many people enjoy eating spicy and sweet foods, which in TCM are categorized as “rich and greasy”.
Regular consumption of these foods can obstruct our spleen and stomach.
When the spleen and stomach cannot transform everything into nutrients that the body can utilize,
those untransformed substances turn into phlegm.
To resolve various types of phlegm-dampness in the body, we can use the “Fenglong (Fenglong) point” as the main acupuncture point, with three additional points for the best effect:

Analysis
■. If the phlegm in your throat is primarily yellow and sticky.
And you often cough, feel thirsty, and have heat and irritability, this may indicate heat in the lungs.
Phlegm-dampness with heat forms yellow phlegm; at this time, in addition to strengthening the spleen, dispelling dampness, and transforming phlegm, we also need to clear lung heat.
To dissipate the fire trapped in the lungs, in addition to Fenglong point, we can also use: Kongzui (Kongzui) point.
“The spleen and stomach govern transformation and transportation,” and if the body’s fluids are not transformed in time, phlegm will form.
Fenglong point is an acupuncture point on the stomach meridian, serving to connect the spleen and stomach meridians, similar to a “bridge” between the spleen and stomach.
Fenglong point is located on the outer side of the lower leg; it can be tapped 200-300 times, or you can apply blue mugwort essential oil and use a pure copper guasha board for guasha. For patients with phlegm, the severe guasha marks on the lower leg are often due to Fenglong point.
Fenglong point can simultaneously address issues with spleen and stomach function; when the spleen and stomach are strong, they can naturally resolve phlegm in the body.
“Fenglong point”: On the outer side of the lower leg, 8 cun above the tip of the outer ankle, 2 finger breadths (middle finger) from the anterior border of the tibia.
All types of phlegm in the body, whether yellow or white, tangible or intangible, can be treated with Fenglong point.
And yellow phlegm is mostly “heat phlegm”, which requires clearing lung heat.
Kongzui point means: it addresses all diseases related to the body’s orifices, and is the most effective acupuncture point.
From the nasal orifices to the anus, all orifice-related issues can be treated with Kongzui point.
Tips: “Orifices” refer to the openings in the body, such as the nose, mouth, ears, and anus.
For example, if there is yellow, thick nasal discharge from the nostrils, the mouth is also an orifice, and the yellow phlegm coughed up.
Kongzui point can not only clear lung heat and resolve yellow phlegm but can also address “hemorrhoids”.
Because hemorrhoids are “small flesh balls” appearing at the anus, which is also an orifice of the body, thus, as the first acupuncture point for “resolving orifice issues,” it can definitely be used.
People with hemorrhoids will feel significant pain at Kongzui point.
Regularly scraping Kongzui point with guasha or moxibustion, or pressing it 200-300 times is beneficial.
Additionally, washing with warm water after each bowel movement is also a good method to prevent hemorrhoids.
“Kongzui point”: Located 7 cun above the wrist crease on the line connecting the Shizhe (Shizhe) point and Taiyuan (Taiyuan) point.
■. If the phlegm is white, you can use: Feishu (Feishu) point.
“The lungs are the storage organ for phlegm, and the spleen is the source of phlegm”; if the spleen and stomach cannot digest the fluids, they accumulate into phlegm.
These phlegms gather in our lungs, and clearing the lungs can transform phlegm.
Feishu point is the acupuncture point for “transporting qi and blood to the lungs”.
When the lungs are rich in qi and blood, they have the energy to resist the invasion of phlegm-dampness.
“Feishu point”: Located on the back, 1.5 cun lateral to the spinous process of the 3rd thoracic vertebra.
■.The kidneys are the source of water, and kidney yang has the function of regulating qi and transforming phlegm-dampness.
If your phlegm condition has not improved after a long time, chronic illness damages the kidneys, at this time, in addition to regulating the spleen and lungs, we also need to regulate the kidneys.
The Guanyuan point has a good warming yang and qi-transforming effect, which is beneficial for phlegm, cough, and asthma caused by kidney yang deficiency, as well as edema and cold intolerance.
“Guanyuan point”: Located 3 cun below the navel.
