Huang Qi and Chrysanthemum Porridge
Ingredients:
50g Huang Qi (Astragalus), 2g Huang Ju Hua (Chrysanthemum), 50g Japonica rice, appropriate amount of rock sugar.
Method:
1. Soak Huang Qi in 800g of water for 30 minutes, then pour the soaked Huang Qi and water into a clay pot, bring to a boil, and simmer for 20 minutes.
2. Filter the Huang Qi water through gauze and set aside.
3. Add another 800g of water to the Huang Qi, boil, then simmer for 30 minutes, filter again, and repeat with another 800g of water.
4. Combine the three batches of Huang Qi water and discard the residue.
5. Rinse the Japonica rice, add it to the Huang Qi water in a rice cooker, and cook porridge. Add chrysanthemum petals and rock sugar 10 minutes before the porridge is done, stir well, and serve.
Effects:
Huang Qi is sweet, slightly warm, and enters the spleen and lung meridians, with effects of tonifying Qi and raising Yang, stabilizing the exterior and stopping sweating,promoting urination and reducing swelling, and detoxifying to promote tissue regeneration, making it the foremost herb for Qi tonification.
Chrysanthemum is the flower of autumn, with excellent health benefits. It is sweet, cold in nature, and enters the lung and liver meridians. Consuming chrysanthemum in autumn not only moistens and clears heat but also disperses wind-heat and clears the liver to improve vision. The fragrant and cool nature of chrysanthemum, combined with the properties of brown rice, enhances the medicinal effects.
Angelica and Red Date Stewed Chicken Feet
Ingredients:
5 chicken feet, 50g lean pork, 5g Dang Gui (Angelica), 4 red dates, 6 dried longans, a small handful of goji berries, appropriate amount of salt.
Method:
1. Cut the chicken feet into small pieces, and the lean pork into chunks. Wash the red dates, goji berries, longans, and herbs.
2. Boil water in a pot, add chicken feet and lean pork to blanch.
3. After blanching, remove and rinse off the surface foam, place in a stewing bowl, add red dates, goji berries, longans, and herbs, and add enough water.
4. Steam in a water bath for 2-3 hours.
5. Add a little salt for seasoning before serving.
Effects:
This dish can nourish blood, invigorate blood circulation, and reduce swelling and pain, regulate symptoms of fatigue and weakness. It can also promote blood circulation and reduce swelling and pain in the early stages of fractures. Caution is advised for those with damp obstruction and diarrhea.
Strengthening Spleen Four Gods Soup
Ingredients:
20g lotus seeds, 20g gorgon fruit, 40g Huai yam, 15g Fu Ling (Poria).
Method:
1. Soak Fu Ling, yam, gorgon fruit, and lotus seeds for 30 minutes, set aside.
2. Clean the pig stomach thoroughly, rubbing it with coarse salt inside and out.
3. Place the soaked ingredients in a gauze bag, stuff it into the pig stomach, and sew it up with needle and thread.
4. Place the stuffed pig stomach in a pot with water, bring to a boil, then simmer for 1.5 hours. Add salt to taste before serving.
Effects:
Huai yam can tonify the spleen and stomach, generate fluids, benefit the lungs, and tonify the kidneys. Lotus seeds can nourish the heart, benefit kidney Qi, strengthen the spleen and stomach, and astringe the intestines. Gorgon fruit can benefit the kidneys, secure essence, tonify the spleen, stop diarrhea, and eliminate dampness. Fu Ling can promote urination, drain dampness, strengthen the spleen, and calm the mind.
This soup can strengthen the spleen, transform dampness, enhance appetite, and boost immunity, suitable for those with spleen and stomach deficiency, poor digestion, lack of appetite, endocrine disorders, and sub-health conditions, and can be served as a main meal.
Olive and Aged Tangerine Peel Stewed Lean Pork
Ingredients:
2 olives, 10g aged tangerine peel, 100g lean pork, a little ginger, 1 piece of rock sugar.
Method:
1. Wash and pit the olives, soak the tangerine peel until soft, and clean the lean pork.
2. Chop all ingredients together and place them in a stewing bowl.
3. Add rock sugar and 250ml of cold boiled water, cover, and steam in a water bath for about 2.5 hours.
4. Add appropriate salt before serving.
Effects:
Olives have phlegm-resolving, digestive, appetite-stimulating, and throat-soothing properties. Combined with the aromatic and phlegm-resolving aged tangerine peel, this dish has moisturizing, throat-soothing, and Yin-nourishing effects, making it a suitable tonic for dryness of the lungs leading to hoarseness, dry mouth, and throat itchiness.
Huang Qi and Ginseng Porridge
Ingredients:
40g roasted Huang Qi (Astragalus), 5g Ren Shen (Ginseng) (or 30g Dang Shen (Codonopsis)), 100g rice, appropriate amount of white sugar.
Method:
1. Slice Huang Qi and Ginseng, soak in cold water for half an hour, then boil in a clay pot to extract a concentrated liquid.
2. After extracting the liquid, add cold water and repeat the process to obtain a second liquid, discarding the residue.
3. Combine the two liquids and divide into two portions.
4. Use one portion each morning and evening, cooking it with rice to make a thin porridge, adding white sugar, and cooking briefly before consumption. Take twice daily for 5 days as a course of treatment.
Effects:
Both Huang Qi and Ginseng can tonify Qi, strengthen the stomach, and generate fluids, with a sweet taste, making it effective as porridge, easy to adhere to. It is suitable for those with Qi deficiency, frequent diarrhea, shortness of breath, fatigue, gastric prolapse, and rectal prolapse.
