Methods to Eliminate Dampness from the Body
1: Correct Exercise to Eliminate Dampness
Spring is a season with much rain and humidity. Coupled with a lack of exercise, the internal and external dampness can hinder the spleen’s function, leading to poor circulation of qi and blood in the limbs, resulting in a series of health issues.Appropriate exercises such as running, brisk walking, ball sports, yoga, and Tai Chi can help promote qi and blood circulation, increase fluid metabolism, and accelerate the expulsion of dampness from the body.
2: External TCM Treatments to Eliminate Dampness
Foot Soaking to Eliminate DampnessIn Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), there is a saying, “Soaking feet with Chinese herbs can eliminate dampness.” If your body is often in a damp and cold state, consider soaking your feet in warm water before bed each night. Focus on the area around the San Yin Jiao (Spleen 6) point until you start to sweat slightly; the dampness will be expelled with the sweat, achieving the effect of eliminating dampness.Acupuncture to Eliminate DampnessYou can select points such as Zu San Li (Stomach 36), Zhong Wan (Ren 12), Guan Yuan (Ren 4), Qi Hai (Ren 6), Fei Shu (Bladder 13), and Gao Huang (Bladder 43) for dampness elimination. These points have different effects: Zu San Li and Zhong Wan can strengthen the spleen and stomach, enhancing the body’s ability to digest and absorb moisture; Guan Yuan and Qi Hai can strengthen the foundation and replenish kidney qi, enhancing the body’s ability to expel dampness; Fei Shu and Gao Huang can tonify lung yang and strengthen defensive qi, improving the body’s resistance to external dampness.Cupping to Eliminate Cold DampnessCupping is widely used for treating bi syndrome, such as pain in the lower back, shoulders, and joints, muscle strain, and blood stasis. However, it is important to perform cupping in a warm environment. Pregnant women and patients with high fever, coma, convulsions, edema, ascites, or tumors should avoid cupping. Choose areas with ample muscle for cupping, avoiding bony areas, areas with excessive hair, skin allergies, ulcers, edema, and large blood vessels, and select appropriately sized cups based on the area being treated.
