「Guide to Health Preservation for Yin Deficiency in Autumn」
Since the arrival of autumn, friends with Yin deficiency have started to struggle:
Dry mouth, unable to part with lip balm for a moment;
Skin on the face feels dry, always needing a hydrating spray;
Stools are also very dry, taking a lot of effort to pass;
Feeling irritable, easily experiencing insomnia at night…
Why is it so difficult? How can friends with Yin deficiency comfortably get through autumn? This health preservation guide is specially designed for those with Yin deficiency, please take note!
01. Why is it difficult for friends with Yin deficiency after entering autumn?
Yin deficiency is like an engine running low on oil; the machine continues to work, or like a pot with less water still boiling. As a result, the machine or pot becomes increasingly hot, and people exhibit various symptoms of heat:
Dry eyes, always feeling a fire burning;
Dry mouth, constantly wanting to drink water or beverages to quench thirst;
Hot palms and soles, preferring to keep feet outside while sleeping;
Irritable mood, easily losing temper;
Skin is in a state of dehydration, applying toner daily feels ineffective, like dried tofu;
Stools are also very dry, often having to engage in a tug-of-war with the toilet…
So why do friends with Yin deficiency suffer more in autumn?
After a summer of high temperatures, the body’s Yin fluids can easily become deficient. With the arrival of autumn, the dryness becomes more pronounced, and those already lacking in fluids will exhibit even more dryness, entering a “dry, dry, dry” mode.
Therefore, to comfortably get through autumn, friends with Yin deficiency must replenish their fluids, just like adding oil to an engine or water to a pot, to nourish their body.

Eat more Yin-nourishing foods
What foods are good for nourishing Yin? Foods like Yu Zhu (Polygonatum), Sang Shen (Mulberry), Xue Li (Snow Pear), and Gou Qi Zi (Goji Berries) are very suitable.
For example, Yu Zhu is a true master of hydration; it can win hearts with its “clear as jade, moist as bamboo” technique. On dry days, it provides a food-grade moisturizing experience, allowing you to regain the title of “peach of immortality”. According to the “Ben Cao Zheng Yi”, it is recorded that it is effective for “heat evil burning, excessive fire causing wind, lung and stomach dryness, fluid depletion, thirst, and hunger”.
Another example is Sang Shen, which not only nourishes Yin but also replenishes blood. It is especially beneficial for office workers who often look at computers and phones, as it helps nourish the eyes and hydrate the body.
According to the “Chinese Pharmacopoeia”, it is recorded that it “enters the heart, liver, and kidney meridians. Nourishes blood, nourishes Yin, generates fluids, and moistens dryness. Used for dizziness, tinnitus, palpitations, insomnia, premature graying of hair, thirst due to internal heat, and blood deficiency constipation.”
In addition, you can also eat foods like Bai He (Lily), Yin Er (Tremella), and Xing Ren (Apricot Kernel), which are known for their hydrating properties and are favorites for autumn hydration.
Avoid activities that damage Yin
Staying up late not only depletes liver blood and kidney essence but also drains the body’s Yin fluids. If you are adding water and oil while simultaneously leaking them, you may end up nurturing a false vitality. The correct lifestyle is to get good sleep; when it’s time, put down your phone and tell yourself: it’s time to sleep, good night, sweet dreams!
Additionally, excessive stress and overthinking can also harm Yin. If you are constantly exhausted over KPIs, status, and fame, overextending your body’s resources, your fluids will eventually be depleted. It’s advisable to maintain a calm mindset, avoiding competition and impatience.
Moreover, consuming too many spicy foods can also harm Yin. Think about it: after eating too much barbecue or spicy hot pot, do you often feel your mouth is dry and on fire? Do you frequently experience a burning sensation in your lower body? Do you occasionally break out in pimples? This is all because spicy foods are secretly taking away your fluids. Therefore, it’s best to limit spicy and stimulating foods, keeping your diet light for a more comfortable body.
END
With a good lifestyle, combined with daily nourishment through diet and exercise, your body will reward you with a spring-like experience throughout the seasons. So, this autumn, promise me to eat regularly, sleep well, and develop good habits, okay?
