⭕ The human body contains a total of five Zang (organs) and six Fu (hollow organs).
The five Zang organs are:
Xin (Heart), Gan (Liver), Pi (Spleen), Fei (Lung), Shen (Kidney);
the six Fu organs are:
Dan (Gallbladder), Wei (Stomach), Da Chang (Large Intestine),
Xiao Chang (Small Intestine), San Jiao (Triple Burner), Pang Guo (Bladder).
⭕ The main physiological functions of the six Fu organs are:
to receive and digest food,
separate the clear from the turbid, transform essences,
and expel waste from the body,
preventing it from accumulating.
In contrast, the five Zang organs are responsible for
storing essence, Qi, and spirit!
⭕ The six Fu organs:
1. Dan (Gallbladder): Physiological function:
stores and excretes bile,
and governs decision-making.
2. Wei (Stomach): Physiological function:
receives and digests food,
and harmonizes by descending.
3. Xiao Chang (Small Intestine): Physiological function:
governs the reception and transformation of substances,
separates the clear from the turbid,
and is responsible for the lower abdomen’s fluids.
4. Da Chang (Large Intestine): Physiological function:
transforms waste, and governs fluids.
5. Pang Guo (Bladder): Physiological function:
stores and excretes urine,
relying on the Kidney’s Qi transformation function.
6. San Jiao (Triple Burner): Physiological function:
facilitates the flow of Yuan Qi,
regulates Qi mechanisms and transformations,
and serves as the pathway for fluid movement.
⭕ The five Zang organs:
1. Xin (Heart):
The Heart is the residence of the spirit, the master of blood,

② governs consciousness;
the Heart opens to the tongue, connects with the pulse in the body,
its manifestation is on the face, associated with joy,
and in fluids, it is sweat.
The Heart is paired with the Small Intestine.

The Lung is the place of the corporeal soul, the master of Qi,
and belongs to the metal element; Physiological functions:
① governs Qi and controls respiration;
② governs dispersing and descending;
③ regulates the water pathways;

assists the Heart in regulating Qi and blood flow;
the Lung connects to the throat, relates to the skin,
its manifestation is in body hair, opens to the nose,
associated with worry, and in fluids, it is mucus;
the Lung is paired with the Large Intestine.
3. Pi (Spleen):
The Spleen is the source of Qi and blood transformation,
the foundation of postnatal life, and stores intention,
belonging to the earth element.
Physiological functions:
① governs transportation and transformation;
② governs the raising of clear Qi;
③ governs blood regulation;
opens to the mouth, connects with the flesh,
governs the four limbs, its manifestation is in the lips,
associated with thought, and in fluids, it is saliva;
paired with the Stomach.
4. Gan (Liver):
The Liver is the place of the ethereal soul,
stores blood, and is the source of tendons.
It belongs to the wood element,
governs the rising and movement. Physiological functions:
① governs the smooth flow of Qi;
② stores blood;
opens to the eyes,
connects with the tendons,
its manifestation is in the nails, associated with anger,
and in fluids, it is tears;
the Liver is paired with the Gallbladder.
5. Shen (Kidney):
The Kidney is the foundation of pre-natal essence, stores will,
and the lower back is the Kidney’s Fu organ, belonging to the water element; Physiological functions:
① stores essence,
governs growth, development, and reproduction;
② governs water;
③ governs the reception of Qi;
in the body, it relates to the bones, governs bone marrow,
its manifestation is in hair,
opens to the ears and the two lower orifices,
associated with fear, and in fluids, it is saliva;
the Kidney is paired with the Bladder.
