The mind and body of a person are interdependent. An optimistic and proactive spirit represents Yang, while a pessimistic and negative spirit represents Yin.
Qian Duoduo, burdened by negative emotions, found her body overwhelmed, leading to a decline in immune function and a failure of the Ying and Wei (营卫) systems, placing her in a state of extreme Yin, exacerbating her illness. To restore health, one must first change their mental state.
Understanding this principle, Dr. Wu approached treatment from both angles, but emphasized starting from the heart.
“Comrade Qian, since you have transitioned from Western medicine to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), it shows you still wish to recover. If you want to heal, you must adjust your mindset, forget some past events, and quickly regain your health, reclaiming what belongs to you. As the saying goes, one must be reborn after facing death.” After summarizing Qian Duoduo’s situation and the reasons for her illness, Dr. Wu concluded.
“Thank you, Dr. Wu!” Qian Duoduo responded. “After listening to your diagnosis and analysis of my current situation, I must say you are a great doctor, truly remarkable. I will cooperate with the treatment, just as you said, if I am not afraid of death, what else is there to fear?”
In fact, when Dr. Wu mentioned she was a premature baby, Qian Duoduo already found him impressive. When he later spoke of her serious illness and hospitalization a year ago, her admiration grew even more.
After so much treatment, watching doctor after doctor come and go, all sighing, Qian Duoduo, who was already pessimistic, felt despair. However, a few words from Dr. Wu instilled confidence in her for the first time, making her feel she had met the right person, or rather, the right doctor.
“Comrade Qian, your mother has gone to prepare medicine for you. Take it for five days and observe the effects. Rest assured, you will definitely get better.” Dr. Wu reassured Qian Duoduo once more, knowing that at this moment, her desire to survive and confidence in healing were Yang, the best medicine.
“Thank you, I will definitely follow your medical advice!” Qian Duoduo confirmed again.
“Dr. Wu’s diagnosis and his guidance to the patient truly opened my mind. The same illness seems different in Dr. Wu’s eyes; the entire analysis of the condition is thorough, clearly dissecting the cause of the illness, and the treatment plan is extraordinarily profound. As the saying goes, treat the heart before treating the illness; once the heart is healed, confidence arises, and good health is just a matter of time!” Dr. Wu Zheng, along with his colleagues, couldn’t help but express their admiration after leaving the ward.
A group returned to the consultation room, where Dr. Wu Zheng invited Dr. Wu to share insights about Qian Duoduo, a patient everyone found quite challenging.
Everyone had been speculating how Dr. Wu would treat this condition and whether he could manage it. Unexpectedly, Dr. Wu remained calm and clear about the patient’s condition, outlining a step-by-step treatment plan.
“When facing patients, no matter how complex the condition, we must first ensure our mindset is stable; maintaining a calm demeanor is crucial. Then, we analyze step by step. Even the most complicated conditions can be traced back to an imbalance of Yin and Yang. Once the source is found, it can be easily resolved.” Dr. Wu smiled at everyone, saying, “Do not be intimidated by the complexity of the symptoms.”
“Dr. Wu is absolutely right! We often complicate simple issues. The principle of simplicity is indeed what this means!” Dr. Dong nodded in agreement.
“If you want to see how the treatment progresses, please gather here again in three days!” Dr. Wu extended the invitation.
Dr. Wu knew that the effects of the medicine would be evident soon, but to allow everyone to see significant results, he suggested meeting in three days.
“Great! We will definitely be here!” The colleagues all agreed.
Three days later, Dr. Dong and his team first visited Qian Duoduo’s ward. Although they did not speak, they were all somewhat astonished. Originally, Qian Duoduo had severe edema, but after three days, she had visibly slimmed down, and the sores on her hands seemed to be scabbing over. It was reported that her appetite had improved, and the swelling in her face had significantly reduced. It appeared that Dr. Wu’s treatment was very effective. In just three days, all symptoms indicated that Qian Duoduo’s condition was rapidly improving.
They all went to Dr. Wu Zheng’s consultation room, where the delayed Dr. Wu was immediately surrounded.
“Dr. Wu, your treatment is very effective! Please tell us how to achieve Yin-Yang balance.” Dr. Dong spoke first.
“In simple terms, the physical body is Yin, while the spirit is Yang. Yin and Yang intertwine; there is Yin within Yang and Yang within Yin. By identifying the point of imbalance and extracting Yin to obtain Yang, one can achieve Yin-Yang balance and thus maintain health.” Dr. Wu revealed the essence of the matter, leaving everyone in silence. While it sounds simple, it is not easy to implement.
“Thank you for your guidance; we will work together diligently,” Dr. Wu Zheng expressed heartfelt gratitude.
