The history of Daoist guiding techniques is very long, with records dating back over two thousand years. The “Su Wen: Blood and Qi Formations” states: “When the meridians are blocked, illness arises from lack of benevolence; treat it with massage and medicinal decoctions.” The guiding method for enhancing essence is a technique that promotes sexual vitality through guiding practices, and centuries of practice have proven its powerful effects on strengthening the body. The Daoist guiding method for rejuvenation is simple and easy to learn, suitable for all ages, and as the name suggests, it has the function of delaying aging, restoring youth, and maintaining vitality, hence it is called “Rejuvenation Gong.”
The principles and effects of “Rejuvenation Gong” can be summarized into four points:1. The first section of Rejuvenation Gong employs abdominal deep breathing to strengthen the diaphragm, which can expand lung capacity, allowing for the intake of a large amount of fresh air while expelling all the carbon dioxide waste from the body. At the same time, during deep breathing, the whole body relaxes, the body is lifted upwards, bent downwards, and moves in an elliptical motion, placing the cerebral cortex in a protective inhibitory state, adjusting and balancing the central nervous system, and moderately opening the usually closed capillaries throughout the body, greatly facilitating gas exchange within the cells, allowing for the expulsion of the old and the intake of the new, making one energetic and vibrant.2. Regulating endocrine function and improving the secretion of sex hormones. The second section of Rejuvenation Gong involves whole-body shaking, which cleverly stimulates the endocrine glands, increasing the secretion of sex hormones and regulating their balance. Practical experience has shown that many cases of sexual dysfunction have improved, restoring youthful vitality.3. Promoting gastrointestinal peristalsis and improving the functions of the digestive and urinary organs. The health of the gastrointestinal system greatly impacts overall health. The movements in the first, second, and third sections of Rejuvenation Gong promote the intestines and stomach to peristalsis in three different ways, all of which enhance the digestive, absorption, and excretion functions of the gastrointestinal tract. At the same time, the kidneys and bladder slightly tremble with the movements, enhancing their functions, reducing the deposition of organic salts, preventing the formation of kidney stones, and adjusting the nerves controlling urination. Therefore, practicing Rejuvenation Gong will ensure smooth functioning of the gastrointestinal and urinary organs, dispelling diseases and prolonging life.4. Ensuring smooth flow of Qi and blood through the meridians, which is beneficial for dispelling evil and supporting the righteous. The movements in the third section of Rejuvenation Gong involve the body moving in flexible circular or arc-like motions, with the whole body relaxed, allowing the joints and meridians to be active, greatly facilitating the smooth flow of Qi and blood. Coupled with the increased intake of fresh air from the first section and the regulation of the endocrine system from the second section, the overall health of the body can be greatly improved. According to traditional Chinese medicine, this enhances vital energy, harmonizes the body’s fluids, invigorates blood circulation, dispels evil, and supports the righteous. Therefore, those who practice this method regularly can regain youth and enjoy the joy of a healthy body.
1. Daoist Guiding Method for Rejuvenation1. Preparatory Exercise: Stand upright with feet together, arms extended forward, forming a right angle between the arms. Raise the arms from the sides, palms facing up, inhale, and lift the heels. Bring the palms together above the head, then lower them down past the abdomen, palms facing down, and spread them to the sides. Separate the legs to shoulder-width, arms at the sides, hands naturally hanging down, relax all muscles, gaze forward, eliminate distractions, and calm the mind. 2. The first section involves abdominal deep breathing: inhale first, then exhale. When inhaling, lift the heels, expand the abdomen, and take in as much fresh air as possible. For beginners, inhale through the nose; once accustomed, inhale through both mouth and nose simultaneously; during exhalation, gently contract the abdomen, bend the knees, and lower the heels to expel the turbid air from the lungs and stomach through the mouth, repeating this for sixteen cycles (one inhale and one exhale counts as one). 3. Shaking: After deep breathing, pause for about half a minute, relax the whole body, maintain an upright posture, arms still at the sides, knees slightly bent, and shake the entire body up and down elastically. The fingers should be slightly bent, and straightening them may create a feeling of fullness. While shaking, tap the teeth, continuing this for one minute, approximately 164 times. Total duration is three minutes. 4. Shoulder Rotation: After shaking, rest for one minute. Stand with feet shoulder-width apart, body weight on the front of the feet, knees slightly bent, and the whole body relaxed, mouth slightly open, arms hanging down, neck straight, and rotate the shoulders in circular motions. The shoulders should alternate in movement: first, lift the left shoulder, moving it forward, upward, backward, and downward in a circular motion; simultaneously, the right shoulder moves backward, downward, forward, and upward in a circular motion. Alternate the shoulder movements for a total of sixteen times. During shoulder rotation, use the body to drive the shoulders, and the shoulders to drive the arms, causing the upper body to twist continuously, compressing the internal organs to expel the old and take in the new. Regarding the key points of practice: 1. During shaking, the breasts, all body muscles, joints, teeth, and internal organs must feel a sense of vibration for it to be correct. 2. During shoulder rotation, practitioners do not need to actively breathe; let the compression of the upper body drive the breathing. Beginners should perform the shoulder rotation gently, avoiding excessive force.
2. Kidney Massage for Enhancing EssenceThe kidneys govern the storage of essence, being the source of growth, development, and reproduction, and the root of life activities, hence traditional Chinese medicine refers to them as the “foundation of pre-natal essence.” By promoting the circulation of Qi and blood in the kidneys through massage, one can achieve the goal of invigorating kidney essence.1. Side Lying Kidney Rubbing Method① Lie on your back with eyes closed, clenching both hands at your sides, exhaling through the mouth and inhaling through the nose. ② Lie on your left side, rubbing the palms together to generate warmth. Place the right hand on the lumbar region of the back, rubbing up and down in the kidney area (right side) for 30 times. ③ Lie on your right side and perform the same number of rubs in the opposite direction. The above steps ① to ③ count as one set, repeat three to five times. 2. Bathing Kidney Rubbing Method① Soak in a bathtub, legs extended straight or in a seated position with bent knees. The right hand reaches around to the back, using the thumb and index finger to rub the area behind the right kidney for 30 times. ② Rub the left kidney with the left hand for 30 times. ③ Then, place both palms on the kidney area and rub up and down for more than 30 times. Repeat 3 to 5 times. 3. Abdominal Pressing MethodThis method is most effective for enhancing bladder function. It is especially beneficial to rub the area below the navel where the bladder is located. If the kidney methods one and two are performed along with abdominal pressing, the effects will be even more pronounced. 4. Urethral Method – Groin Rubbing Method① Lie on your back with eyes closed, clenching both hands at your sides, slowly exhaling through the mouth and inhaling through the nose. ② Rub the palms together to generate warmth, then rub the palms on the heels (groin area) for 30 times. This counts as one round, repeat 3 to 5 rounds. The methods described above, while restorative, also serve as treatments for organ dysfunction diseases.
3. Strengthening the Liver and Nourishing the KidneysThe liver and kidneys reside in the lower jiao, sharing the same source. The liver stores blood, and the kidneys store essence, with essence and blood mutually generating each other. The connection between the liver meridians and the reproductive organs is particularly close. The “Ling Shu: Meridians” states: “The foot jueyin meridian… follows the inner thigh, enters the hair, and passes through the genitals.” It also states: “The foot jueyin sinew, its disease… the genitals do not function.” Therefore, strengthening the liver and nourishing the sinews can also invigorate the spirit.1. Rubbing Method for Strengthening the Liver① Lie on your back with eyes closed, clenching both hands at your sides, slowly exhaling through the mouth and inhaling through the nose. ② Rub the palms together to generate warmth, then rub the right hand on the lower left rib for 30 times. ③ Rub the left hand on the lower right rib for 30 times. The above steps ① to ③ count as one set, repeat 3 to 5 times. 2. Pressing Method for Strengthening the Liver① Soak in a bathtub, sitting with knees bent, except for the thumbs, the other eight fingers are together, placed on the left rib near the stomach, fingers pointing inward, bending the fingertips to press the flesh from the stomach to the ribs inward. Simultaneously inhale through the nose, then release the hands while exhaling through the mouth. ② Move the fingers slightly backward along the ribs until the two index fingers touch the center of the ribs. As previously described, press the abdomen with the two fingers until the fingertips can enter the inner side of the ribs while inhaling through the nose. ③ Relax the pressure while exhaling. Move the hands outward, fingers together, placed on the lower left rib near the ribs, pressing the abdomen inward towards the ribs while inhaling through the nose. Then release the fingertips from the inner side of the ribs while exhaling through the mouth. The above steps ① to ③ involve pressing the abdomen inward along the ribs, repeating this three times from the stomach to the ribs. This counts as one set, repeat 3 to 5 times. After finishing the left side, use the same method to press the right side. The number of repetitions on both sides should be the same, but always start from the left side. Additionally, when pressing inward, apply a little more force. Initially, press 1 cm deep, and gradually increase to 2 to 3 cm as you become accustomed. If you cannot press in initially, it is due to the stiffness of the internal organs. Healthy internal organs are soft and elastic; with continuous practice, the stiff internal organs will become quite soft within a week at the fastest, or one to two months at the slowest. Softness indicates recovery of health. If you feel pain or discomfort while performing this method, stop immediately. First, practice the rubbing method for strengthening the liver for two weeks to a month until the liver and internal organs recover, then begin this method.4. Abdominal Massage and Dan Circulation Method The abdomen houses the liver, spleen, and kidneys, and is associated with the stomach, intestines, and bladder, governed by the Ren and Chong meridians, and bound by the Dai meridian, encompassing the foot three yin and Yangming meridians. It is the source of both pre-natal and post-natal essence. Therefore, massaging the abdomen can promote the vigorous functions of the liver, spleen, and kidneys, invigorating life force, thus achieving the goal of enhancing essence and longevity.1. Circular Abdominal Rubbing: Sit or lie on your back, centering on the navel, use one hand or both hands alternately to perform circular rubbing on the abdomen. Taking the right hand as an example, place it on the upper abdomen, moving through the left lower abdomen to the lower abdomen, then up the right lower abdomen back to the upper abdomen, rubbing down to the middle abdomen, with the palm facing the liver, counts as one. The left hand should operate in the opposite direction. Perform this for about 10 times with each hand. Depending on your needs, if there is fullness or discomfort in the chest or abdomen, you can combine this with the chest rubbing method, moving from the chest or upper abdomen through the middle abdomen to the lower abdomen, or from the upper abdomen to the lower abdomen. If it is a case of middle Qi sinking or stomach prolapse, rub from the lower abdomen upwards. 2. Point Vibration on Shenque: Lie flat on your back, using the middle finger to vibrate the Shenque point, feeling the abdomen swell and tremble. You can also choose other abdominal acupoints for vibration, such as Zhongwan, Zhangmen, Tianshu, Qihai, and Guanyuan.3. Pinching and Lifting the Abdomen: Use the thumb, index, and middle fingers of both hands to pinch and lift the skin from the lower abdomen to the small abdomen along the Ren meridian, shaking as you go. You can also perform this from bottom to top, repeating three times.4. Overlapping Palms for Dan Circulation: In the morning, stand in a quiet place or lie down in bed before sleep, relax the body, and calm the mind; place the left hand below and the right hand above, overlapping the palms, with the inner and outer Laogong points facing each other, resting on the lower abdomen, with the inner Laogong facing the Qihai point, using the wrists to press down, performing circular pressure from the big fish mound to the palm root to the little fish mound and back to the fingers, completing 36 circles in one direction; then reverse and press 36 circles in the opposite direction, feeling warmth and fullness in the lower abdomen. During the practice, focus your mind on this area, regulate your breathing, and appropriately incorporate anal contraction movements. After completing this practice, you can also perform oral exercises by swishing, swallowing the saliva in three portions, directing it to the lower abdomen for better results. This practice can be done alone, and with prolonged practice, it can strengthen the spirit, enhance the body, and promote longevity.
