As the ancients said: “Pure Yang is the immortal, pure Yin is the ghost, and half Yin half Yang is a human.” In the process of human cultivation, the method of 采阴补阳 (cǎi yīn bǔ yáng, absorbing Yin and supplementing Yang) is considered an important approach. Here, “Yin” does not refer to pathogenic Qi, turbid Qi, or evil Qi, but rather to the natural Yin Qi that exists in the universe. The practice of 采阴补阳 is not the mundane understanding of the harmony between men and women, but rather refers to absorbing the Yin Qi from the universe and transforming it into the Yang Qi needed by the human body.
Some ancient practitioners would even specifically go to tombs to cultivate the method of 采阴补阳 to absorb the Yin Qi there. However, this method of cultivation is not suitable for everyone; only those with abundant Yang Qi in their bodies can withstand the Yin Qi in the tombs.
Traditional Chinese Medicine also believes that to supplement a person’s Yang Qi, one should first start from the Yin Qi, that is, “Yang comes from Yin”. Cultivating in a cave also requires those with strong Yang Qi to do so. This is because the cave is Yin, while the outside is Yang; if the Yin Qi in the body is too heavy, staying in the cave for too long may attract some “invisible beings.” However, those with strong Yang Qi can absorb the Yin Qi in the cave, thereby increasing their Yang Qi and achieving the effect of Yin-Yang harmony.
Some practitioners, after cultivating in the cave for several years, can have a body temperature as high as 50 degrees Celsius, which seems incredible to ordinary people. However, as cultivators, they can withstand such high temperatures. This 50 degrees does not rise suddenly but gradually increases. Those with high body temperatures can quickly enhance their skills while cultivating in the cave.
What people commonly refer to as “spirits and ghosts” is actually due to not transforming Yin Qi into Yang Qi. The power of Yin Qi is downward, while the power of Yang Qi is upward. Just like the four seasons, spring and summer are Yang, while autumn and winter are Yin. In autumn, leaves fall and enter a dormant state; Yang Qi no longer rises, and although no leaves grow, the roots continue to grow. In winter, the earth absorbs Yin Qi and transforms it into Yang Qi, which is then sent upward in spring, resulting in the growth of leaves, branches, and flowers.
The human body is also like a tree, absorbing the earth’s Yin Qi during nighttime cultivation. After the midnight hour, the body’s Yang Qi begins to generate again. However, modern people often reverse Yin and Yang, resting only between 2 to 3 AM, which goes against natural laws. As a result, modern individuals suffer from many strange illnesses that are difficult to cure.
To maintain health, we should follow natural laws and rest between 9 to 10 PM. This is because the body’s Yang Qi returns to its source during the midnight hour and is then distributed to every peripheral nerve in the body. Sleeping for one hour during this time is equivalent to several hours at other times. The best and highest quality sleep occurs during the midnight hour.
However, modern people often do not know how they fall asleep and wake up. This is because the Yin and Yang energies in the body are not well coordinated. Only by subduing the body can one subdue the mind. As ordinary people, our psychological responses are almost entirely influenced by physiology. Therefore, we should focus on regulating the balance of Yin and Yang within the body to achieve greater harmony and health.
Feel free to share, the merit is boundless
All the pressure you bear originates from excessive desires deep within your heart;
All the pain you experience is due to excessive attachment and stubbornness;
When certain things do not go as you wish, it is the universe gently reminding you,
It is time to adjust your direction and learn to turn around...
