The Eight Major Symptoms of Blood Deficiency
1. Individuals with xue xu (血虚, Blood Deficiency) have a pale complexion, lacking the rosy hue.
2. Those with xue xu are prone to insomnia, as the blood does not nourish the heart, leading to sleep disturbances. This type of insomnia is quite common among modern individuals.
3. People suffering from xue xu often experience forgetfulness, easily forgetting names of people they just met, which is also due to the blood not nourishing the heart.
4. Individuals with xue xu have pale mucous membranes, such as the color of their nails, lips, and eyelids, which appear very pale.
5. Those with xue xu tend to feel fatigued. Generally, women enjoy shopping, but women with xue xu may feel as if their bones are about to fall apart after just a short walk. Additionally, during fatigue, they may experience palpitations, with the heart beating weakly and irregularly, and are prone to dizziness.
6. Individuals with xue xu may have warm hands and feet in summer, but they become immediately cold in winter. They may also feel cold when entering an air-conditioned room in summer, indicating that the blood deficiency fails to nourish the extremities. Such individuals tend to be sensitive to cold and need to wear more clothing in winter.
7. When squatting for two minutes and then standing up suddenly, they may experience a moment of blackness before their vision returns to normal. This often indicates insufficient qi (气, vital energy) and blood. According to TCM theory, qi and blood mutually generate each other, and supplementing blood can yield very good results.
8. Individuals with xue xu have a pale tongue body, lacking a rosy appearance.
Many people believe that xue xu is the same as anemia, but there are certain differences between the two. Many individuals with mild xue xu may not show anemia in blood tests; however, those with severe xue xu often meet the criteria for anemia in blood tests.
