1. Overview of Spleen and Stomach Coldness
Spleen and Stomach Coldness, also known as Spleen Yang Deficiency, is a well-known syndrome. From the illustration of Spleen and Stomach Coldness above, it is easy to see that Spleen Yang Deficiency and Stomach Yang Insufficiency lead to an excess of Yin Cold, which is the direct cause of Spleen and Stomach Coldness. When Spleen and Stomach Yang is insufficient, it cannot effectively warm the body, failing to restrain Yin, leading to an excess of Yin and deficiency of Yang, resulting in an overabundance of Yin Cold in the body, thus causing Spleen and Stomach Coldness.
Spleen and Stomach Coldness – Dull abdominal pain, relieved by warmth and pressure.
The syndrome of Spleen and Stomach Coldness is characterized by the loss of Spleen function and cold symptoms as key diagnostic points. Insufficient Spleen Yang leads to poor digestion, resulting in abdominal distension and poor appetite; Yang deficiency and Yin excess cause cold to arise, leading to abdominal pain that is relieved by warmth and pressure; the internal excess of Yin Cold causes water and dampness to not transform, resulting in clear water regurgitation, loose stools, and in severe cases, undigested food and difficulty urinating, leading to edema. In women, there may be clear, thin vaginal discharge and a feeling of heaviness in the lower abdomen.
Excessive consumption of cold drinks and foods can easily affect the Spleen and Stomach, leading to Spleen and Stomach Coldness.
2. Main Symptoms of Spleen and Stomach Coldness
Poor appetite, abdominal distension after eating; noticeable abdominal pain that improves with a hot water bottle or being covered with a blanket; a tendency to rub or press the abdomen for comfort; frequent clear water regurgitation, unformed stools, either loose or diarrhea; heavy limbs, cold hands and feet, and some may experience edema; a feeling of heaviness and discomfort in the lower abdomen, with some experiencing dull pain; women may have vaginal discharge; a pale, swollen tongue with a white, slippery coating.
