Preface by Master FuguangThis guidance method for the Kidney Meridian is my most cherished practice, named “Fuguang’s Radiance” and not intended for public display. Today, at the request of a friend, I present this method to the public, hoping that those who indulge excessively will restrain themselves, and I also wish to provide some utility to friends who are left with only pain and suffering in their bodies, as well as to exchange ideas with fellow practitioners.Ancient sages often spoke of nourishing the kidneys as the foundation of health, while modern people often speak of enjoying the pleasures of the kidneys, hence the prevalence of kidney deficiency as a condition. It is well known that excessive indulgence harms the kidneys, especially when such indulgence is pursued without restraint, leading to a loss of kidney essence and spirit. The liver loses its nourishing yin, bile energy becomes stagnant, and the spleen and stomach become imbalanced. Gradually, this leads to heart failure and shortness of breath, known as the kidneys not receiving qi. Weakness in the lower back and legs, movement feels like a struggle, and relying on willpower alone, the energy of the Kidney Meridian must be replaced by the energy of the spleen. The pulse becomes bound and irregular, and the heart rate difficult to synchronize, leading to peculiar temperaments! The harms of excessive indulgence are difficult to fully describe; the treatment of this condition has long been systematized through the accumulation and evolution of medicinal effects and surgical techniques!(1)To guide the energy of the Kidney Meridian, one must calm the mind and spirit, removing fear to stabilize the internal organs. Without calming the mind and spirit, one should not force the guidance. It is advised to repent for past wrongful actions to achieve tranquility of body and mind.Lie flat, cover yourself. Spread your limbs, with palms facing down. Take deep breaths, focusing on the line from the edge of the palms to the little toes. After a moment, feel your body and mind become calm.Focus on the area below the inner ankle and the back of the inner ankle. When you feel energy in the lower inner leg, focus on the Yongquan (Kidney 1) point, where the cool energy of the Kidney Meridian flows from the inner ankle to the Yongquan point. You will soon feel drowsy, as the energy of the kidney meridian is activated from its root. If the kidney energy is too weak, and you do not feel the energy, use acupressure techniques (gently press the Tai Xi (Kidney 3), Da Zhong (Kidney 4), and Shui Quan (Kidney 5) points with your thumb to guide the energy).Stay focused until you feel a clear sensation at the Yongquan point behind the inner ankle. Then, focus on the Huiyin (Perineum) point for a while, allowing the kidney energy to rise along the meridian. At this point, the meridian energy is flowing but still weak, so gently guide the energy with your breath along the inner thigh and lower leg between the Huiyin and Yongquan points, ensuring the energy flows freely in the meridian. Keep your focus on the Huiyin point, and when you feel warmth in the area, you can shift your focus to the two kidney regions, guiding the energy to reach the kidneys. At this time, use your breath to guide the energy back and forth between the kidney area and the Yongquan point with long, deep breaths. When you feel it is smooth, you can stop using breath to guide and simply be aware of the sensation. As the meridian energy reaches the kidneys, you should carefully observe sensations of fullness, pain, or itchiness in the kidney area, indicating the depth of kidney deficiency.(2)When the energy of the kidney meridian circulates and the pain diminishes or disappears, maintain focus on the two kidney areas, gradually feeling a fullness, slight pain, and warmth in the Mingmen (Gate of Life) area between the kidneys, indicating the activation of true yang energy. At this point, the true yang energy of the kidneys is ignited! It is advisable to maintain this focus and strengthen it.If you feel satisfied, bend your arms, keeping your elbows level with your shoulders. Using your elbows and heels as support, try to lift your body off the bed. Repeat this action three times to consolidate energy in the kidneys before getting up.(3)Second stage. Allow awareness and breath to naturally connect the Yongquan point to the kidney area, maintaining focus on the kidney area for a moment, then moving to the spine and Mingmen point, activating and concentrating yang energy. This interacts with the stomach’s Yangming meridian, warming the Zhongwan (Middle Cavity) point. The front and back yang energies resonate and gradually strengthen; simply maintain your focus. At this point, the fire of the congenital Mingmen has been ignited, and the postnatal spleen and stomach yang energy begins to flourish, gradually building strength. Appetite increases, and energy starts to recover. Continue to calm and nourish.Still feeling the warmth from the Mingmen and abdominal yang heat, gradually sense the yang energy descending in the abdomen, warming the perineum and bladder. Maintain focus for a moment. After the yang heat of the bladder is activated, the energy moves from the Yangguan (Bladder 2) point in the lower back to the Yaoyan (Lumbar Eye) point, feeling fullness and heat, moving up and down. This facilitates the transformation of true yang energy in the bladder, providing a source of yang energy. Shortly after this mutual activation, the true yang energy in the chest is revitalized, and a warmth rises from the chest. Maintain focus on this source of energy, waiting for the natural activation of the true energy in the Du Mai (Governing Vessel) at the Zhi Yang (Governing Vessel 9) point, and keep your focus there. Soon, the energy of the Du Mai will slowly move up and down, eventually connecting through the Du Mai. Do not use breath or awareness to guide; simply observe its movement.(4)After connecting through the Du Mai, the energy flows along the back to the top of the head. Saliva is produced in the mouth, continuously swallowed. Then, the energy circulates through the various meridians in the head and face, reaching the ears, nose, eyes, mouth, and lips. Next, it flows to the shoulders, neck, and jaw, and then to the hands. At this point, the hands should be placed over the abdomen, left hand below and right hand above, palms facing each other. After a while, the energy flows through the upper arms, feeling the connection to the ribs. Focus on the ribs, feeling the energy flow from the sides down to the lower abdomen. Focus on the hips, allowing the energy to flow down to the lower limbs. At this moment, the entire body feels unified, warm inside and out. Finally, the energy settles at the two Taiyang (Temples) points. Stand in a horse stance, feet shoulder-width apart. Squat down, lowering your center of gravity. Relax the toes, avoiding gripping the ground.Form a cross with your hands (left hand outside, right hand inside), about half a foot from your face, and maintain this position.Focus your intention on the little fingers and the edges of the palms, extending to the outer sides of the arms and the peaks of the shoulders and the upper edges of the shoulder blades (which correspond to the Hand Taiyang Meridian), starting from the little fingers and guiding the energy through breath. When the intention and energy unite, initiate the movement: exhale, moving the hands and arms outward with the shoulders. Stop when the arms are level with the shoulders, pushing the palms outward, taking a deep breath. On the next exhale, bring the palms together in front of the shoulders, stopping at the front of the shoulders. Repeat this five times. The hands in a cross position stop in front of the lower jaw, pushing forward while exhaling; then retract while inhaling. The energy then descends to the abdomen. At this point, the true yang energy of the entire body is concentrated and penetrated. The practice is complete. You may gently massage the ribs and the area along the stomach meridian. Finally, rub the face with both hands, running your fingers through your hair, and massage the Fengchi (Wind Pool) and Fengfu (Wind Mansion) points at the back of the head and nearby areas. This complete set of guidance methods can be practiced in stages initially. Once proficient, it can be done once a day or every other day, preferably in the afternoon or early evening. If you encounter fellow practitioners, be aware of the level of skill.Do not mix with other practices.I hope that those interested in cultivation will cherish this! It is sufficient for a lifetime of nourishment! As for the other two yang meridians of the arms, they are not within the scope of health preservation, so I will not discuss them here.Appendix: Diagram of the Kidney Meridian PathwayPathway: Begins below the little toe, travels to the sole of the foot, ascends along the inner ankle to the thigh, connects to the kidneys, enters the bladder, ascends to the diaphragm, enters the lungs, travels through the throat, and connects to the root of the tongue, with branches emerging from the lungs to connect to the heart.
