Du Mai
The most important of the Eight Extraordinary Meridians, the Du Mai (Governing Vessel), governs the essence, qi, and spirit of the body. It unifies the body’s yang, hence it is called the “Sea of Yang Vessels.”
Detailed Explanation of Du Mai
Circulation of Du Mai and Corresponding Acupuncture Points
It starts at the perineum, travels up the spine, enters the brain, reaches the vertex, and follows the forehead.
The Du Mai governs the yang qi of the entire body and connects to the yin qi. The collateral of the Du Mai ascends from the lower abdomen; if the qi is disordered, it can lead to conditions such as urinary retention, hemorrhoids, enuresis, and infertility in women. “If it is full, the spine is strong; if it is deficient, the head feels heavy.”
Health Exercises
Gently rotate our spine 30 times clockwise, then 30 times counterclockwise. The five zang organs are connected to the spine, and this exercise has excellent health benefits, especially for those with heart and spleen-stomach issues, cold hands and feet, or problems with the urinary and reproductive systems. It is effective for prevention and treatment.
