Do you feel a loss of appetite when the weather gets hot, with a thick and greasy tongue coating, dry and bitter mouth, abdominal bloating, and loose stools?
Do you wake up feeling fatigued after using air conditioning, with soreness in your lower back and tightness in the muscles of your back?
Do you experience excessive oiliness in your hair and face, with frequent acne outbreaks on your face and back that come and go?
Do you prefer heavily flavored foods and experience body swelling?
Do you have high uric acid, high blood lipids, and poor metabolism?
These seemingly minor issues can affect your health and cause you distress.
If you have the above symptoms, it is recommended to try the traditional Chinese medicine treatment method—Youzonguan (Cupping Therapy).
1
What is Youzonguan?
Youzonguan, also known as sliding cupping, uses cups as tools. A suitable amount of lubricant is applied to the mouth of the cup and the area of the body that needs treatment. The cup is then moved back and forth on the skin using negative pressure, causing the skin to become reddened or congested, which helps prevent and treat diseases.
2
Functions of Youzonguan
Invigorates blood circulation and resolves blood stasis, promotes Qi (energy) and blood flow, eliminates toxins, relaxes muscles and opens meridians, adjusts Yin and Yang, alleviates muscle tension, regulates gastrointestinal function, relieves fatigue, and enhances physical fitness.
3
Advantages of Youzonguan
Non-invasive, safe to use, and easy to operate.
4
Indications for Youzonguan
1. Acute and chronic pain: such as muscle strain in the shoulders and lower back, and recurrent muscle tension in specific areas;
2. Heavy summer dampness;
3. Extensive acne;
4. Sub-health status.
5
Contraindications for Youzonguan
1. Patients with fever, convulsions, coagulation disorders, or spasms should not use it;
2. Pregnant women and children under 6 years old should not use it;
3. Women should avoid treatment during menstruation;
4. Treatment is not suitable for areas with skin allergies, ulcers, edema, or major blood vessel distribution;
5. Patients with bleeding tendencies should not undergo treatment.
6
Precautions
1. For patients who are overly fatigued, hungry, extremely thirsty, or intoxicated, it is not advisable to perform the procedure immediately; it can be done after resting and recovering.
2. After treatment, drink an appropriate amount of warm water to replenish lost fluids and promote metabolism.
3. To avoid invasion by wind-cold pathogens after treatment, the treated area should not be directly exposed to air conditioning or fans.
4. After Youzonguan, do not take a shower, swim, or soak in water; bathing can be done after about 4-6 hours.
5. The cups should not be left on for too long.
6. Youzonguan is generally performed once every two weeks.

What does the cupping mark indicate?
After cupping, the local skin may show red bruises, which we call cupping marks. These typically dissipate within 7-10 days. We usually assess the body’s condition based on the color of the cupping marks. Generally, the earlier the cupping marks appear, the darker the color, and the occasional appearance of blisters indicates heavier dampness.
