Understanding the Importance of Smooth Meridian Flow in Preventing Disease

When the meridians are unobstructed, diseases do not arise

We have generally understood the composition and function of the meridian system. The blood circulating in the meridians nourishes the skin and mucous membranes through the yang meridians on the surface of the body, while it nourishes the muscles, bones, and internal organs through the yin meridians within the body.

Similarly, the qi circulating in the meridians forms a barrier on the body’s surface through the yang meridians, protecting the body from external pathogenic factors; on the other hand, through the internal yin meridians, it regulates and controls the functions of the muscles, bones, and internal organs, keeping the body in a balanced, harmonious, and stable state. Under the combined action of the qi and blood meridians, the body exists in a state of “external peace and internal harmony”.

For example, if a country is peaceful externally and harmonious internally, the entire nation will surely thrive. Similarly, if the body is in a state of “external peace and internal harmony”, various external and internal pathogenic factors will have no opportunity to invade, and the body will maintain a healthy state.

Therefore, human health is based on the unobstructed flow of the meridians. Only when the meridians are unobstructed can qi and blood circulate normally to every part of the body, thereby playing a role in regulating, controlling, and nourishing the body, ensuring health. When the meridians are open, qi and blood can flow, and health can always accompany you.

Understanding the Importance of Smooth Meridian Flow in Preventing DiseaseWhen the meridians are obstructed, diseases occur

Under normal circumstances, the meridians are unobstructed. If external pathogenic factors invade the body and heat toxins damage the yang meridians, the body’s ability to resist pathogens will decrease, leading to dysfunction in regulation and control, resulting in symptoms like colds and fevers. If the pathogenic factors further invade the yin meridians, causing heat toxins to stagnate in the lung meridians, it can lead to pneumonia; damage to the heart meridians can cause myocarditis; and damage to the kidney meridians can lead to nephritis.

Under normal circumstances, the circulation in the yin meridians of the internal organs is also unobstructed. The unobstructed flow of the yin meridians ensures the normal functioning of the internal organs, preventing internal organ diseases. However, if external pathogens invade, emotions become unbalanced, or injuries occur, the yin meridians may be affected, leading to stagnation of qi in the meridians, disrupting the coordination and balance of the internal organs, and causing abnormal information transmission and regulation. For example, stagnation of liver qi can cause fullness in the sides; stagnation of spleen qi can lead to post-meal fullness and inability to eat; stagnation of brain qi can result in irritability and anxiety; and stagnation of qi in the limbs can cause numbness, soreness, and pain.

If stagnation of qi in the meridians is not treated in a timely manner, it can develop into blood stasis in the meridians, which most easily leads to obstruction of blood flow in the vascular system and insufficient blood and oxygen supply to the internal organs. If there is blood stasis in the brain meridians, it can lead to cerebral arteriosclerosis, dizziness, and headaches; if there is blood stasis in the heart meridians, it can lead to coronary arteriosclerosis, insufficient blood supply to the myocardium, and chest tightness and pain.

Meridian obstruction can also lead to spasms due to fatigue or excessive emotional excitement. Spasm in the brain meridians can cause a temporary interruption of blood supply to the brain, resulting in dizziness and blackouts, and even numbness in one side of the body, slurred speech. Spasm in the heart meridians mainly causes angina, often accompanied by chest tightness, shortness of breath, and sweating.

If the obstruction and spasm in the meridians further develop, it can lead to complete blockage of the meridians, meaning blood cannot pass through and information cannot be transmitted. Blockage in the brain meridians can lead to cerebral thrombosis, hemiplegia, and speech difficulties; blockage in the heart meridians can cause myocardial infarction, which can be life-threatening if not treated promptly.

If pathogenic qi accumulates in the meridians for a long time, combined with blood stasis and phlegm, it can form masses. These masses can develop into liver cancer if they grow in the liver, lung cancer if they grow in the lungs, and brain tumors if they grow in the brain.

Therefore, meridian diseases can trigger various diseases, and unblocking the meridians can treat many conditions.
