This is du jiu (督灸), a moxibustion therapy performed on the Governing Vessel, suitable for patients with rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and lumbar disc herniation. Du jiu promotes blood circulation, alleviates pain, has antioxidant effects, and regulates the neuro-endocrine system, making it a commonly used traditional Chinese therapy.

Moxibustion not only treats diseases and expels pathogens but also plays a significant role in warming yang, tonifying qi, and dispersing cold, thereby enhancing the body’s resistance to cold and disease, improving immunity, and adapting to climate changes. It can also be used as a preventive health measure, contributing to longevity, thus showcasing its advantage in “preventing disease before it occurs”.

Warm Reminder

1. After moxibustion, do not take a shower immediately to avoid cold air and moisture entering the skin, which may lead to superficial ailments;

2. Drink plenty of water after moxibustion to replenish the body’s fluids, aiding in detoxification;

3. Pay attention to warmth: After moxibustion, heat is generated, causing the pores to open; thus, it is essential to keep warm promptly to prevent cold air from invading and worsening the condition.
