————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————–
It is said that during the Eastern Han Dynasty, General Ma Yuan fought in Jiaozhi (equivalent to present-day Guangdong, Guangxi, and northern and central Vietnam). Due to the humid and hot climate of the southern mountains, which caused miasma to spread, Ma Yuan and his soldiers often consumed Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed). After eating it, the soldiers not only felt lighter but were also able to overcome the miasma.
Later, when Ma Yuan returned victorious from pacifying the southern regions, he brought back a cartload of Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed) as seeds for cultivation. However, this act was misused by some malicious individuals who falsely accused him of plundering a large amount of jewelry from the people. To prove his innocence, Ma Yuan angrily dumped the cartload of Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed) into the Lijiang River in public, instantly dispelling the rumors.
The local people loved this honest and selfless general, so they named the mountain by the Lijiang River “Fubo Mountain,” and Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed) also gained the beautiful name “Yi Zhu Zi (Pearl Seed).”

In fact, Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed) not only has significant anti-cancer properties but also strengthens the spleen, nourishes the lungs, clears heat, and promotes diuresis, making it a natural beauty food. So, what are the specific effects and benefits of roasted Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed)?
Effects and Benefits of Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed)
The preparation of traditional Chinese medicine is very meticulous and affects its efficacy. The roasting process alters its properties, making it more suitable for users. The effects of roasted Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed) include: strengthening the spleen, nourishing the lungs, clearing heat, and promoting diuresis. It treats diarrhea, dampness obstruction, muscle spasms, difficulty in flexion and extension, edema, beriberi, lung abscess, intestinal abscess, turbid urination, and excessive leukorrhea.
Modern research shows that Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed) contains starch, sugars, proteins, fats, amino acids, adenosine, and trace elements. Its active components include coix seed oil and coix polysaccharides. Animal studies have demonstrated that Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed) has certain effects in lowering blood pressure, reducing blood sugar, anti-aging, anti-tumor, anti-viral, anti-inflammatory, and enhancing the body’s immune response. These effects may explain the beauty and anti-skin aging properties of Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed).
Yi Ren (Coix Seed) is a type of grain that can be boiled until soft or roasted. Roasting Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed) is more beneficial for gastrointestinal absorption, and after roasting, its nature is neutral to slightly warm, making its spleen-strengthening effect stronger than that of raw seeds, but its diuretic function is not as strong as that of raw seeds. Raw Yi Yi Ren (Coix Seed) is more inclined to clear heat and drain pus, often used for abscesses.
