Many people today are constantly thinking about how to eliminate dampness, feeling as though the dampness in their bodies cannot be completely removed.
In fact, this is because they lack the step of Qi supplementation.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), there is a saying: “Qi can move water; Qi can promote the metabolism of body fluids.”
Only when the Qi is abundant can body fluids not accumulate into dampness within the body.
If Qi is deficient and unable to promote the metabolism of body fluids, excess waste water will accumulate in the body, leading to the formation of dampness.
Therefore, to eliminate dampness, one must learn to supplement Qi, primarily focusing on supplementing Spleen Qi (Pi Qi) and Kidney Qi (Shen Qi).
If the dampness is due to Spleen Qi deficiency, patients often experience poor appetite, feeling bloated after just a few bites, unable to eat, loose stools that are not formed, heavy limbs, fatigue, and indigestion.
The reason for this is that the Spleen governs transformation and transportation; on one hand, the Spleen can transform food and replenish Qi and blood, ensuring sufficient Qi to effectively promote the excretion of body fluids.
On the other hand, Spleen Qi can also transform body fluids.
For this reason, while eliminating dampness, we must pay attention to strengthening the Spleen and benefiting Qi. We can use Spleen-Strengthening Decoction (Jian Pi Tang) as a base formula and then adjust it according to the symptoms.
If the dampness is due to Kidney Qi deficiency, these patients often exhibit the following symptoms:
They frequently need to urinate after drinking water, feel an urgent need to urinate at the thought of it, or experience difficulty urinating, weak urine flow, frequent nighttime urination, and even symptoms like nocturnal emissions or incontinence.
This is because the Kidney governs the reception of Qi, which is fundamental to Qi. On one hand, it can retain Qi, preventing it from leaking out, allowing the Qi that is supplemented to be better retained in the body.
On the other hand, the Kidney is paired with the Bladder, and it can regulate the opening and closing of the Bladder, thus excreting waste water from the body through urine.
When Kidney Qi is sufficient, the dampness in the body naturally decreases. To benefit Kidney Qi, we can use Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan (Kidney Qi Pill from the Golden Cabinet) for treatment adjustments.
Therefore, when trying to eliminate dampness, one must not blindly pursue dampness removal; it is essential to distinguish the situation and eliminate dampness correctly and reasonably.
