Many middle-aged and elderly friends suffer from cardiovascular diseases, and many must take medication for life, but they are often reluctant to do so and seek traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and dietary therapy methods for regular health maintenance.
In comparison, choosing natural medicines is very ideal. When it comes to preventing and treating cardiovascular diseases, one must mention a TCM herb – Dan Shen (Salvia miltiorrhiza).
“There is a medicine called ‘Compound Dan Shen Dropping Pills’, which is used to relieve symptoms of coronary heart disease, and many people are probably familiar with it.” Dr. Hou Yijun, Chief Physician of the TCM Department at the Coal General Hospital commented on Dan Shen. This fully illustrates the medicinal value of Dan Shen:
Dan Shen is known as the “Qi medicine in the blood”; it can invigorate blood circulation and remove blood stasis, regulate Qi, and relieve pain. Generally, Dan Shen only costs a few yuan, and it has health benefits for those with or at risk of hypertension and cardiovascular symptoms, making it an affordable and effective TCM herb.
When selecting Dan Shen, remember that thicker, purplish-red pieces are best, while yellowish ones are of lesser quality, but generally, for health maintenance, they are sufficient!
