Catching a Cold: My Mother’s Gua Sha Treatment

Last night, I woke up to find my feet icy cold. With the weather turning colder and rainy, it was no surprise that I caught a cold, and my head was pounding.

Thinking about having to go to work made it a truly painful day. I could only get up in time to eat the noodles my father made.

I had to tough it out and work a full day in the workshop. Having a cold is really uncomfortable, and I couldn’t afford to take a day off as it would mean losing a lot of pay.

When I got home from work, my mother saw that I was feeling unwell and insisted on giving me Gua Sha (scraping therapy). She said that when she had a cold, she also did it herself, and it worked very well.

Hearing this made me feel uneasy. If my parents still have to work so hard when they are older, what is the meaning of us growing up?
