Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) believes that there are differences in human constitution. Generally, there are nine types of constitution: Pinghe zhi (Harmonious Constitution), Yangxu zhi (Yang Deficiency Constitution), Yinxu zhi (Yin Deficiency Constitution), Qixu zhi (Qi Deficiency Constitution), Tan shi zhi (Phlegm-Damp Constitution), Shire zhi (Damp-Heat Constitution), Xueyu zhi (Blood Stasis Constitution), Qiyu zhi (Qi Stagnation Constitution), and Te bing zhi (Special Constitution). Each constitution has its own differences in both disease treatment and health preservation, which is what TCM refers to as “one person, one prescription, one disease, one prescription.” Understanding your constitution is essential for choosing the appropriate health preservation methods.
Questions for Identifying Harmonious Constitution1. Do you have abundant energy? 2. Is your personality easy-going and cheerful? 3. Is your diet regular? 4. Are your bowel movements normal? 5. Is your sleep quality high? 6. Can you tolerate changes in temperature? 7. Can you adapt to changes in your natural and social environment?
