All Diseases Arise from Cold Damage: Treating All Illnesses with the Theory of Cold Damage

All Diseases Arise from Cold Damage: Treating All Illnesses with the Theory of Cold DamageThis article is reproduced from Shuncong Nature “All Diseases Arise from Cold Damage: Treating All Illnesses with the Theory of Cold Damage”External causes of disease such as wind and qi are due to Cold Damage. All diseases arise from Cold Damage. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) diagnoses based on pulse and symptoms, using the Six Meridians and Eight Principles to differentiate syndromes, employing methods such as sweating, vomiting, purging, and others to expel pathogenic qi, balance yin and yang, and regulate qi and blood to treat diseases. The Treatise on Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Diseases is its guiding principle. Today, TCM has been westernized, abandoning the theory of Cold Damage. It denies the principles of TCM by relying on bacteria, cells, and factors, focusing solely on laboratory tests, imaging, and dissection, which only address superficial symptoms. All diseases are collectively termed inflammation. Treating inflammation indiscriminately, without distinguishing between cold and heat, leads to worsening inflammation. Surgery becomes the last resort. In fact, the parts removed by surgery still suffer from the influence of wind, cold, and other pathogenic factors affecting the circulation of qi and blood, resulting in pathological phenomena. Symptoms such as cold, heat, pain, and itching caused by Cold Damage are manifestations of the disease, representing superficial symptoms rather than the root cause. The root cause is the essence, while phenomena and sensations belong to the superficial. Therefore, even minor ailments can become chronic or recurrent, turning into difficult diseases.People generally endure various minor discomforts and illnesses, struggling to live comfortably for a while. Some resort to inappropriate treatments, mistakenly turning many minor issues into major diseases. Today, the incidence of cancer, hypertension, and other diseases is increasing, largely due to this approach. After surgery for cancer, many patients experience recurrence, metastasis, and spread because they have not expelled wind and eliminated pathogenic factors, nor treated the root cause.True TCM relies on pulse and symptoms, allowing for accurate diagnosis and root treatment of Cold Damage even when patients feel slightly unwell, and instruments cannot measure it. Minor ailments can be eradicated, preventing the emergence of major diseases. However, practitioners of TCM based on the theory of Cold Damage are nearly extinct. Most existing TCM hospitals and practitioners primarily follow Western medicine. Even when using Chinese herbs, they are guided by Western principles. This is a fundamental misdirection. I have learned TCM and studied Cold Damage while suffering from various ailments, gradually growing in my understanding. I have broken through many so-called difficult diseases, and although my level is still low, I am following the correct path of TCM, bringing hope to many terminal conditions.Confirming “All Diseases Arise from Cold Damage: Treating All Illnesses with the Theory of Cold Damage”1. Cancer is a common minor disease that develops into a serious condition due to mismanagement.Regardless of the pathogenic factor or meridian involved, as long as one deviates from the principles of Cold Damage and continues to apply Western theories, abandoning root treatment for superficial symptoms, there is a possibility of developing cancer. Even if one has already developed cancer, as long as one understands the principles of Cold Damage, follows the meridians, adheres to the Eight Principles, and accurately applies methods such as sweating, vomiting, and purging, it is still possible to save lives; it is not necessarily a terminal condition. Western medicine refers to cancer cells spreading and metastasizing, which is actually a deep-seated reaction of Cold Damage. Surgical removal is a last resort. Post-surgery, TCM root treatment is the best strategy. Cancer cells arise from the imbalance of yin and yang caused by Cold Damage, which restricts the circulation of qi and blood. Western medicine claims early detection; I say that by the time instruments detect it, it is already too late. Before cancer develops, accurately diagnosing and treating common Cold Damage is the true early detection and early treatment.Mr. Niu suffered from colitis and had taken over 200 doses of Chinese medicine at a local TCM hospital. His condition worsened, and tests showed inflammation had not subsided but increased. He urgently sought my treatment.Upon examining his medication: Qian (Scutellaria baicalensis), Lian (Coptis chinensis), Erhua (Chrysanthemum), Geng (Gentiana), and Shigao (Gypsum) were all heat-clearing and anti-inflammatory herbs. It is evident that he was following Western principles, using anti-inflammatory techniques, which only exacerbated his condition. I diagnosed his pulse as floating, weak at the cun position, alternating between cold and heat, with a red tongue and yellow coating, pain under the ribs, and a heavy feeling during bowel movements. This indicated a Shaoyang Cold Damage pattern. I prescribed Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) with Da Huang (Rhubarb), Fu Zi (Aconite), and Xi Xin (Asarum) modified over six doses, which cured him. Although this condition was not cancer, it demonstrated the pathway to cancer formation. Fortunately, he made a quick turnaround, abandoning Western methods for traditional ones, thus avoiding a serious complication. If he had remained obsessed with large hospitals and looked down on local practitioners, he might have faced dire consequences.Ms. Huang from Songzhuang underwent surgery for gastric cancer but still exhibited symptoms of Shaoyang Cold Damage: lack of taste, inability to eat, belching, dry throat, and a pulse that was alternately floating and sinking, indicating chaos in yin and yang. After several doses of modified Xiao Chai Hu Tang, all symptoms disappeared, and she felt refreshed. She has not relapsed for several years. Mr. Po, suffering from lung cancer, had developed it after over a decade of unresolved rheumatism. The large hospital had given up on treatment, and he was in critical condition. I used Bai Ye Tang (Cypress Leaf Decoction) for several doses to stop the vomiting of blood. Then, I used Xiao Qing Long Tang (Minor Blue Dragon Decoction) for several doses, which eliminated symptoms of cough, shortness of breath, and chest pain due to Cold Damage, extending his life by nine months. All Diseases Arise from Cold Damage: Treating All Illnesses with the Theory of Cold Damage2. Hypertension, like fever, is a different manifestation of Cold Damage; treating Cold Damage will normalize both fever and blood pressure. Not distinguishing between yin and yang, exterior and interior, deficiency and excess, cold and heat, and forcefully lowering blood pressure or reducing fever can only temporarily alleviate urgent situations; it is impossible to achieve a complete cure. The entire world does not understand TCM and does not comprehend the principles of Cold Damage, hence it is said to be a lifelong disease. Western medicine claims it is due to a decrease in blood pressure enzymes; why is there a decrease? I say it is due to Cold Damage affecting the circulation of qi and blood, obstructing metabolism. As long as Cold Damage is treated, hypertension, like fever, will certainly be overcome.Ms. Jiang from Po Tou had high blood pressure, severe headaches, deafness, dizziness, irritability, occasional heat and sweating, with a pulse that was floating at the left cun position and weak at the left chi position, and sinking at the right cun position with slight sinking at the right chi position, along with body aches. I used Dang Gui Si Ni Tang (Angelica Decoction) for ten doses, and all symptoms of Cold Damage disappeared while her blood pressure normalized (110/75) and has remained stable since. Many people have been cured of hypertension, some belonging to the Taiyang meridian, some to the Yangming meridian, some to the Shaoyang meridian, and some to the three yin meridians, with different medications. However, they all do not stray from the root cause of Cold Damage and the diagnostic and treatment principles of Cold Damage.3. Whether or not surgery is necessary is often a costly mistake that can even accelerate deterioration.Surgery is the trump card of Western medicine and can serve as a temporary measure when TCM is powerless. However, the vast majority of diseases should still be treated with TCM as much as possible. The prevalence of surgeries today is still due to the low level of TCM, which cannot fulfill its expected role.Mr. Han’s wife had gallbladder inflammation and underwent surgery. For five years, she suffered from a bitter mouth, dry throat, cold and hot body aches, and other Shaoyang symptoms that did not diminish. The medical team had no other options. The gallbladder had been removed. What more could be done? Helpless, she resorted to self-treatment with a cold remedy. I used Xiao Chai Hu Tang for two doses, which cured her.Ms. Chen’s son had rhinitis and spent over a thousand yuan on surgery without improvement. I treated him with several doses of Chinese medicine and cured him. It is noted that many people today undergo gallbladder removal, hysterectomy, etc. They only remove the obvious part, but the wind and other pathogenic factors that pervade the body may remain. Wise individuals understand that expelling pathogens cannot be achieved without the eight methods of treating Cold Damage. How many patients have completely recovered after surgery? In Silili Township, a man in the military, strong as an ox, had anal itching. The hospital diagnosed it as hemorrhoids, and after surgery, he became partially disabled. He experienced bowel incontinence and sought my help in desperation. Ms. Lian had difficulty with bowel movements, and the hospital said it was due to anal stenosis, requiring anal dilation for relief. The patient asked me and was advised against it; one dose of Chinese medicine cured her.Mr. Di from Dizhuang had an unknown hard lump on his body, which was neither painful nor itchy, moving from his neck to his waist. If left alone, it could have remained undisturbed, but after surgery, it became uncontrollable. Within days, he was transferred to Zhengzhou with no solution and died. This illustrates that all diseases must seek their cause; if one does not understand, one must not blindly treat, especially not resort to surgery.4. Generally, common Cold Damage diseases can be easily treated if one understands Cold Damage and is attentive.Without understanding Cold Damage, even minor ailments can become difficult diseases. Dai Meng, a man with eczema in the groin for decades, I treated skin diseases for the first time and confidently promised a cure.I believe that all diseases fall within the scope of Cold Damage. Upon diagnosing his abdominal fullness, dry mouth and tongue, and all six pulses being deep, the Treatise on Cold Damage states: “For upper swelling, one should induce sweating; for lower swelling, one should induce purging.” A dose of Li Huang Wan (Purgative Pill) completely cured him.Jiu Nana, a woman with rhinitis, dry throat, dry nose, and difficulty breathing, suffered from headaches. She had been treated ineffectively by both Western and Chinese medicine. With a diagnosis of dual yang disease, I used Gui Zhi Jia Ge Gen Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction with Kudzu) for one dose, which cured her.Wang Zhaotong, a man with back pain, spent a thousand yuan at the hospital without effect; I cured him with one dose.Mr. Hou had shoulder pain due to Taiyang rheumatism; his pulse was floating, and I used Ma Huang Jia Shu Tang (Ephedra and Atractylodes Decoction) for one dose, which cured him.Ms. Lian had gynecological bleeding, and after twenty doses of Chinese medicine at the hospital, her condition worsened. Upon examining her medication, it was a cooling formula. Surprisingly, there was no blood-regulating herb. I used one dose, and she was cured. The accompanying facial papules also disappeared.TCM treats the root cause, often resulting in multiple ailments being cured simultaneously. Mr. Wu had hearing loss, a typical Shaoyang Cold Damage pattern, and was cured with one dose of Xiao Chai Hu Tang.In Xiayi Township, a boy named Zhai had dysentery that had not improved for two years, alternating between cold and heat, with upper heat and lower cold. A dose of Huang Lian Tang (Coptis Decoction) completely cured him.A teacher from Po Tou, Zheng Xiangqing, had a fever of 38 degrees, cough, and a floating pulse, indicating Taiyang Cold Damage with water retention in the heart. A dose of Xiao Qing Long Tang cured him. Previously, he had spent a year in a hospital in Luoyang and a week in a hospital in Jiyuan before finding me.Factory worker Zhu Baoying had facial papules due to Taiyang blood deficiency and wind; I used Gui Zhi Xin Jia Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction with New Ingredients) combined with Ma Huang and brown sugar for one dose, which cured her.Ms. Zhao, in her twenties, had pharyngitis, with hands as rough as tree bark. Five doses of Gui Zhi Jia Ge Gen Tang cured her.Mr. Xue, over seventy, had bronchitis and cough; despite having a regular doctor at home, he had not improved for a long time. I cured him with three doses. In Luoyang, Ms. Li had psoriasis and was in a panic, as many considered it a difficult disease. I abandoned superficial treatment and focused on the symptoms of Cold Damage. With cold hands and feet, fullness in the lower abdomen, and occasional pain, the pulse was weak. I used Dang Gui Si Ni Tang (Angelica Decoction) modified over several doses, which completely cured her.Children with hernias, toothaches, insomnia, oral ulcers, ear pus, and other minor ailments are not detailed here. All results stem from the Treatise on Cold Damage; one cannot achieve such effects without it.5. The Treatise on Cold Damage has nearly disappeared in China.Ms. Cao from Po Tou suffered from Shaoyang Cold Damage. She had a bitter mouth, dry throat, dizziness, deafness, alternating cold and heat, irritability, and a pulse that was dizzy, completely matching the original text of the Treatise on Cold Damage. Zhang Zhongjing stated: “For Shaoyang syndrome, even one symptom is sufficient; it is not necessary to have all symptoms.” Such a clear and evident case of Xiao Chai Hu Tang syndrome does not require differentiation; it can be treated with modifications. After being in shock from treatment at a hospital in Luoyang, where she spent nearly a thousand yuan without effect, this elderly woman, over seventy, was at her wit’s end. I cured her with one dose. Coupled with the previous examples, it is evident how significant the Treatise on Cold Damage is in the national TCM community. There are many TCM hospitals and schools across the country. How many can truly treat diseases with TCM?All Diseases Arise from Cold Damage: Treating All Illnesses with the Theory of Cold Damage6. Medical disputes are difficult to resolve. A patient with gallbladder inflammation in Baoji City died after surgery due to persistent fever. The patient did not comply, and later, the family was legally judged to be causing medical disturbances and was detained. This condition was merely Shaoyang Cold Damage that had not yet developed into cancer. A fever that does not subside is something Western medicine may not be able to address. Using the principles of Cold Damage, it may not necessarily be impossible to reduce the fever. Furthermore, if this condition had not required surgery, could the patient have died? A local trauma patient was treated at a hospital; he could walk, talk, eat, and was conscious. The hospital staff only focused on the external injury, neglecting the internal organs, and he died from internal bleeding a day later. The doctor was detained. If they understood TCM, a dose of Tao Ren Cheng Qi Tang (Peach Kernel Decoction) could have saved the patient. The physician would not have been held responsible. Is it entirely the doctor’s fault? The westernization of medicine and the low level of medical skills are the root causes!Faced with this medical situation, legally compliant Westernized practitioners sit comfortably, while the media praises them, the authorities turn a blind eye, and the public remains deceived. Wise individuals recognize the need to develop TCM and shout out, yet no one understands that the westernization of TCM and the abandonment of Cold Damage are the root causes of its decline. There is too much emphasis on ingredients, and local practitioners with talent but no certification are unfairly treated.Note: This article is the conclusion drawn from my decades of learning and applying the Treatise on Cold Damage. It has resolved many contemporary difficult diseases. Various common diseases, including hypertension and cancer, can be cured using the principles of Cold Damage, which is a significant achievement of TCM. All cases mentioned in this article are documented, and I welcome legal review and on-site clinical assessment. Those with a heart will treasure this. However, due to lack of certification, the media does not report on it, and the promotion of saving the country is hopeless. Patients do not trust, and the ability to treat and save lives is hindered. Many supervisors do not care; I am unwilling to give up, seeking the sympathy and support of sages to publish this article and fulfill its intended role. Thank you for your attention and participation.Henan Province Jiyuan Steel Plant Jiu NanyangThursday, February 12, 2009According to my experience, generally, following the Treatise on Cold Damage for diagnosis will definitely yield results with one dose. If one dose does not suffice, it is certainly due to an inaccurate diagnosis. This situation often involves the simultaneous presence of two or three meridians, requiring further effort to identify the overlapping meridians, and addressing them simultaneously can yield results with one dose! This is undoubtedly true! Otherwise, why would the Sage of Medicine leave behind his 113 formulas? Now, the abuse of antibiotics has led to inflammatory symptoms after Cold Damage, and it has become a consensus among the people to use antibiotics indiscriminately! This is also a tragedy! Inflammation subsides, but cold pathogens remain, accumulating repeatedly until they eventually develop into lumps, leading Western medicine to throw patients a “killer blow,” which is the final ultimatum—cancer! As for the relationship between hypertension and Cold Damage, I have not yet considered it, but it may very well be valid. I will think it over carefully.………………………………I accidentally cured a case of so-called lung cancer:In 2007, during a class reunion in Nanjing, I met a classmate, Ms. Hu, the general manager of a company in Shenzhen (female, 63 years old), who had been suffering from a persistent cold, cough, and difficulty expectorating, but did not sweat, feeling particularly uncomfortable, with a pale complexion. I diagnosed her with Shaoyin and Taiyin syndromes and prescribed a formula for her to take home. However, she did not take it immediately. By last year (2008), her cough worsened, and Western medical examinations diagnosed it as lung cancer. They suggested radiotherapy and chemotherapy, which she refused, recalling that she still had my prescription. She took it for six doses, and her cough stopped, so she discontinued the medicine. Soon after, the cough recurred, and she took it again, about ten more doses, and her cough was cured. Later, upon re-examination, it was said that the cancer had disappeared. The formula was: Ma Huang (Ephedra) 6g, Zhi Fu Zi (Prepared Aconite) 6g, Xi Xin (Asarum) 3g, Zhi Gan Cao (Honey-fried Licorice) 6g, Jie Geng (Platycodon) 6g, Xing Ren (Apricot Kernel) 6g (peeled), Wu Wei Zi (Schisandra) 3-6g, Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger) 3-6g, Bai Jie Zi (White Mustard Seed) 3-6g, Huang Qi (Astragalus) 12g (the first ten ingredients are ground into powder and made into pills with honey).Function: Raises yang, disperses wind, expels cold, and resolves exterior, stops cough, and transforms phlegm.[Indications]1. When initially exposed to wind and cold, if the pathogen is at the skin surface and has not yet developed into a cold, a small amount should be taken immediately (9g pill, take 1/4 pill) to quickly expel wind and cold, preventing the development of a cold.2. If wind and cold penetrate deeper, developing into a cough with white phlegm, without headache.3. It can also be used for acute and chronic bronchitis and lung cold with white phlegm after a cold.4. Adding Bai Zhi (Angelica dahurica) and Xin Yi (Magnolia flower) can treat acute and chronic rhinitis.5. Not suitable for headache, body pain, fever, or floating tight pulse types of heat syndrome. In this case, one should follow the Treatise on Cold Damage for Taiyang pulse symptoms, using Gui Zhi or Ma Huang Tang for diagnosis and treatment.6. This formula has special efficacy for influenza caused by wind and cold.…………………………Later, this matter spread among classmates in Shenzhen, claiming that I could cure cancer, which greatly enhanced my reputation. Therefore, during the Beijing alumni reunion, a classmate who was then the chairman of the Shenzhen Political Consultative Conference insisted on having me diagnose and prescribe for him and his wife.In fact, I know very well that who knows if Hu was really that terrifying disease? It is hard to say! In the end, it depends on the patient’s luck, timing, fate, and fortune!Insight 1: Is cancer as terrifying as most people imagine?Insight 2: The formulas of the Sage of Medicine have incredible practical significance and enormous value for in-depth development! If patients can encounter a true TCM practitioner, major issues can be minimized, and minor issues can be resolved easily. If handed over to Western medicine, it becomes difficult to say…I have had experiences similar to those of the original poster, so I cast a vote of support based on my practical experience! Moreover, I have studied liver qi stagnation syndrome for many years and discovered the reason why the original poster often uses Xiao Chai Hu Tang. Those with liver qi stagnation also have a deficiency in the gallbladder meridian, as the liver and gallbladder are interrelated. There is often a history of liver qi stagnation before the onset of the disease. This is my experience over the years. After resolving the Xiao Chai Hu syndrome, it does not necessarily mean that liver qi stagnation is resolved; further effort is needed to resolve liver qi stagnation to ensure no future issues! The application of Xiao Chai Hu Tang for diagnosis is undoubtedly effective with one or two doses. Even using current granules, two or three packets can also resolve the issue. I hope to discuss further with the original poster! This is the combined syndrome of Xiao Chai Hu and miscellaneous diseases of liver qi stagnation!

Cold Damage is not a trivial matter; when it comes to life and death, radiotherapy and chemotherapy are like hellish suffering, all because we disregard TCM and the ancient Sage of Medicine!
