Fu Ling (Poria), also known as Chuan Ling, An Ling, Min Ling, Song Shu, Song Ling, Yu Ling, Bai Ling, Geng Pen, Yu Ling, Song Fu Ling, Song Bai Yu, Bu Si Qu, Song Mu Shu, Wan Ling Jing, etc., is the dried sclerotium of the fungus Poria cocos, which belongs to the family Polyporaceae. Fu Ling has many specifications, such as Chi Fu Ling (Red Poria), Bai Fu Ling (White Poria), Fu Shen (Spirit of Poria), and Fu Ling Pi (Poria Skin). The efficacy of different specifications of Fu Ling varies slightly: Chi Fu Ling and Bai Fu Ling are better for dispelling dampness and promoting urination; Fu Shen is better for calming the mind; Fu Ling Pi is better for diuresis and reducing edema.
Nutritional Value
The main active components of Fu Ling are polysaccharides and poria acid. Among them, the content of Fu Ling polysaccharides is very high, reaching over 93% of the weight of the sclerotium. The solubility of Fu Ling polysaccharides in water is extremely low, and the extraction rate when using hot water is generally only 2%-3%.
Therapeutic Effects
Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) believes that Fu Ling has the effects of strengthening the spleen, dispelling dampness, promoting urination, and detoxifying. The “Shen Nong’s Herbal Classic” records that Fu Ling is used to treat chest and flank qi counterflow, anxiety, fear, palpitations, pain below the heart, dry mouth and tongue, and difficulty in urination. Long-term consumption of Fu Ling can eliminate diseases, dispel evils, nourish the skin, and prolong life.

Steamed Pigeon with Fu Ling【Ingredients】: 2 Pigeons (approximately 1500 grams), 40 grams of Fu Ling slices, 35 grams of green onion white sections, 50 grams of cooking wine, appropriate amount of Sichuan salt and monosodium glutamate.【Preparation】: After killing the pigeon, remove the feathers and internal organs, wash it clean, and blanch it in boiling water.
