Dan Shen (Salvia miltiorrhiza)
Dan Shen has a bitter taste, a slightly cold nature, and enters the Heart meridian.
It is primarily used to treat evil qi in the heart and abdomen, intestinal sounds resembling flowing water, cold and heat, accumulation, breaking up masses, removing stagnation, alleviating fullness, and tonifying qi.
In terms of consumption, Dan Shen can be used to make a stew with Dan Shen, safflower, and black-boned chicken, which has the effect of nourishing yin, tonifying the kidneys, and enhancing beauty. The specific method is provided below:
Dan Shen and Safflower Stewed Black-boned Chicken
Ingredients:
800 grams of black-boned chicken, 10 grams of Dan Shen, 6 grams of safflower, 15 grams of Chuan Bei Mu (Fritillaria cirrhosa), 5 grams of ginger, 6 grams of green onion, 5 grams of salt, 2 grams of pepper, and 10 grams of cooking wine.
Method:1. Clean the black-boned chicken, slice the Dan Shen, cut the Chuan Bei Mu into large pieces, wash the safflower, crush the ginger, and cut the green onion into sections.2. Place all ingredients and cooking wine into a pot, add 2800 milliliters of water, bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce to low heat and simmer for half an hour. Finally, add salt and pepper to taste.
