Angelica Sinensis (当归) is the root of the plant from the Apiaceae family. It is also known as Qin Gui (秦归), Yun Gui (云归), Xi Dang Gui (西当归), and Min Dang Gui (岷当归). It has the effects of nourishing blood, invigorating blood circulation, regulating menstruation, and alleviating pain. It is commonly used for conditions such as blood deficiency, dizziness, palpitations, irregular menstruation, dysmenorrhea, abdominal pain due to deficiency and cold, constipation due to dryness in the intestines, rheumatic pain, trauma, and skin ulcers.

【Properties】 Sweet, pungent, warm.

【Meridians Entered】 Liver, Heart, Spleen.

【Functions】 Nourishes blood, invigorates blood circulation, regulates menstruation, moistens dryness and promotes bowel movement. It is indicated for blood deficiency symptoms; irregular menstruation; amenorrhea; dysmenorrhea; abdominal masses; excessive menstrual bleeding; abdominal pain due to deficiency and cold; numbness of the skin; constipation due to dryness in the intestines; post-dysentery heaviness; skin ulcers; trauma.

【Contraindications】 This herb is sweet, warm, and nourishing. It should not be used by those with excessive heat and bleeding, those with dampness and fullness, or pregnant women should use it with caution.

【Dosage and Administration】 For internal use: decoction, 6-12g; or in pills, powders; or soaked in wine; or applied as a plaster.

Invigorating Qi and BloodAngelica Sinensis and Goji Berry Pork Heart Soup

Pork heart is rich in protein, fat, vitamin B1, vitamin B2, vitamin C, and niacin. Angelica Sinensis invigorates Qi and blood, moistens the intestines, while Goji Berries (枸杞) nourish the liver and kidneys, making it an ideal tonic that can prevent anemia in pregnant women and calm the mind.

♦ Preparation Method

【Ingredients】 500g pork heart, 10g Angelica Sinensis, 50g Goji Berries, 20g dried dates

【Seasoning】 5g cooking wine, 2g salt

【Steps】

1. Clean the pork heart and slice it thinly, soaking it in water;

2. Place the pork heart slices in boiling water, add scallions, ginger, and wine to blanch and remove blood, then rinse clean;

3. Place the rinsed pork heart back into a clay pot, add cleaned Angelica Sinensis, Goji Berries, and dried dates, bring to a boil over high heat, then simmer on low heat for 90 minutes;

4. Once the pork heart is fully cooked, add salt;

5. Sprinkle a little white pepper before serving.
