Life is inherently ordinary; throughout this lifetime, no one can escape the qī qíng liù yù (七情六欲) – the seven emotions and six desires.The “seven emotions” in Buddhism refer to “joy, anger, sorrow, fear, love, hatred, and desire.”These seven emotions are innate to humans. We instinctively smile when we encounter joyful events; we become angry when our boundaries are crossed; we feel sorrow when faced with troubling matters;we experience fear when confronted with insurmountable issues; we feel affection for those we love; and we yearn for what we desire.Later, the philosopher Gāo Yòu (高诱) from the Eastern Han Dynasty commented on the “six desires” mentioned in the “Lǚ Shì Chūn Qiū: Guì Shēng” (吕氏春秋·贵生) as: “The six desires are life, death, ears, eyes, mouth, and nose.”Only when the human heart harbors desires can it be filled with curiosity about the world and anticipation for life.

Zhōu Gōng (周公) shared his food, the world returns to the heart.As one grows older, worries seem to increase with the passage of time.
