This product is the dried mature seed of the plant Coix lacryma-jobi, belonging to the Poaceae family. It is primarily produced in Fujian, Hebei, and Liaoning. The seeds are harvested in autumn when the fruits are ripe, dried, and then the seeds are separated from the outer shell, cleaned of impurities, and collected. It can be used raw or after being stir-fried.【Properties】Sweet, bland, and cool. It enters the Spleen, Stomach, and Lung meridians.【Functions】Promotes urination and drains dampness, strengthens the Spleen and stops diarrhea, alleviates pain, expels pus, detoxifies, and disperses nodules.【Applications】Edema, beriberi with swelling, and difficulty urinating. This product is bland and promotes urination while also tonifying the Spleen. It is commonly used for edema and abdominal distension due to Spleen deficiency with dampness, and for difficulty in urination. It can be combined with herbs such as Fu Ling (Poria), Bai Zhu (White Atractylodes), and Huang Qi (Astragalus) for treatment; for edema with shortness of breath, it can be cooked with the juice of Yu Li Ren (Job’s Tears) as per the “Ji Yan Du Xing Fang” to treat beriberi with swelling, and can be used with Fang Ji (Stephania), Mu Guo (Papaya), and Cang Zhu (Atractylodes) as well.【Dosage】Decocted for oral administration, 9-30g.【Modern Research】Chemical Composition: This product contains fatty oils, coixenolide, coixolide, coix polysaccharides A, B, C, and amino acids, among others.End Traditional Chinese Medicine Prescription Database
