Traditional Chinese Medicine Unique Therapies
【Fire Needle Therapy】
01What is Fire Needle Therapy?Fire Needle Therapy is a medical method that involves heating specially designed needles until they are red hot and then puncturing specific acupuncture points or areas of the body to prevent and treat diseases. Fire Needle Therapy has a history of thousands of years in China, with the earliest records found in the Huangdi Neijing (Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon). Through clinical applications and research by physicians over the ages, Fire Needle Therapy has continuously developed and improved, becoming a unique medical system within acupuncture.
02What are the Effects of Fire Needle Therapy? Ancient literature indicates that fire needles have the effects of warming and strengthening Yang Qi, promoting tissue regeneration, dispelling cold and dampness, alleviating itching, removing blood stasis and pus, reducing swelling, relieving pain, and detoxifying. Modern studies have reported that stimulating the affected area and reflex points with fire needles can rapidly eliminate or improve pathological changes such as local tissue edema, congestion, exudation, adhesion, calcification, contraction, and ischemia, thereby accelerating blood circulation and metabolism, allowing damaged tissues and nerves to recover. Fire needle puncture can promote the absorption of chronic inflammation, destroy pathological tissues, and stimulate the body’s absorption of necrotic tissues. The high temperature of the fire needle reaches the disease site, carbonizing the scar tissue in a small area around the needle, thereby relieving adhesions and improving local blood circulation. After treatment, with a period of rest, the body fully absorbs and metabolizes the burned tissue, gradually reducing and eventually eliminating fibrous knots.03What Diseases Can Fire Needle Therapy Treat?
Ancient literature mentions
Internal diseases such as bi syndrome, tendon diseases, sequelae of stroke, jaundice, dizziness, mania, gastric pain, asthma, low back pain, knee swelling, abdominal cold and heat, heart pain, hernia, and deficiency syndromes.External diseases such as bone abscess, external sores, head sores, scrofula, tumors, bleeding disorders, and fish mouth poisoning.Gynecological diseases such as breast lumps.Pediatric diseases such as malnutrition, axillary abscess, anal atresia, and lip injuries.Ophthalmological diseases
such as pterygium, eye pain, eye itching, and toothache.
Modern literature has expanded the indications for fire needle therapy to various systems
including musculoskeletal diseases, neurological diseases, skin diseases, surgical diseases, gynecological diseases, and ophthalmological diseases.
