What is Fire Needle Therapy?
Fire needle therapy involves heating a specially designed metal needle until it is red hot, then quickly inserting it into specific points or acupoints to provide thermal stimulation, followed by rapid withdrawal to treat diseases.
Fire needle, historically known as “burning needle,” is referred to as “quenching needle” in practice.The “Lingshu: Official Needles” states:“Quenching needle is used to treat bi (obstruction) with the burning needle.”During the Ming Dynasty, Wu Hegao stated:“Quenching needle involves first heating the needle with fire before insertion, which treats cold bi (obstruction) in the bones.”
Effects of Fire Needle Therapy
1. Warms the meridians and unblocks collaterals, alleviates numbness and spasms, dispels wind and scatters cold, relieves itching.
2. Activates blood circulation and disperses blood stasis, reduces swelling and alleviates pain.
3. Assists yang and tonifies deficiency, raises yang and lifts sinking.
4. Dissolves masses and resolves nodules, promotes tissue regeneration and pus drainage, expels toxins and clears heat.
What Conditions is Fire Needle Therapy Suitable For?
The application range of fire needle therapy is quite broad, effectively treating various diseases across internal medicine, gynecology, pediatrics, surgery, dermatology, and otorhinolaryngology.
(1) Musculoskeletal Disorders: Cervical spondylosis, lumbar spondylosis, sciatica, gouty arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, knee joint diseases, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, ganglion cysts, etc.
(2) Digestive Disorders: Functional gastrointestinal disorders (gastroesophageal reflux disease, functional dyspepsia, irritable bowel syndrome, functional constipation, functional abdominal pain), chronic gastritis, chronic enteritis.
(3) Respiratory Disorders: Cough, exogenous fever, acute and chronic pharyngitis, bronchitis.
(4) Urinary Disorders: Benign prostatic hyperplasia, urinary incontinence, impotence, etc.

Precautions for Fire Needle Therapy
(1) For patients receiving fire needle therapy for the first time, it is essential to provide explanations to alleviate fear and encourage active cooperation during treatment. Caution is advised when applying fire needles to the face.
(2) Due to the possibility of small scars after fire needle insertion, fire needles should generally be used cautiously on the face, except for treating facial moles and flat warts.
(3) When using fire needles, meticulous care is required; actions must be swift and precise, avoiding blood vessels, tendons, and major nerve distributions.
(4) After fire needle treatment, keep the affected skin area clean and dry, avoiding water exposure. If mild itching occurs, do not scratch.
(5) Pregnant women, postpartum women, diabetic patients, those with scar constitution or allergic constitution, and patients who are hungry or fatigued should use fire needles with caution.
(6) Patients who are overly tense, hungry, or fatigued should avoid fire needle therapy to prevent adverse symptoms such as fainting.

The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine is a distinctive department in our hospital, integrating the strengths of traditional Chinese medicine with modern diagnostic techniques, incorporating various folk therapies and schools of thought, characterized by simplicity, convenience, effectiveness, and affordability. The department currently has 46 outpatient treatment beds and 34 inpatient beds, with 34 medical staff, including 1 chief physician, 3 associate chief TCM physicians, 6 attending physicians, 4 resident physicians, 3 rehabilitation therapists, and a nursing team of 17. The specialties currently offered include: TCM prenatal care (preconception), cervical, shoulder, lumbar, and leg pain specialty (tui na), TCM gynecology, TCM pediatrics, acupuncture, TCM orthopedics, TCM internal medicine, and TCM surgery (dermatology). Our department always prioritizes medical quality, adhering to the principle of “people-oriented, medicine as benevolence,” focusing on enhancing the team’s capabilities and technical levels to provide better diagnostic and therapeutic services for patients. The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine primarily utilizes traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture treatment, Zhuang medicine line therapy, acupoint embedding, acupressure therapy, meridian therapy, TCM bone setting, tui na, and rehabilitation therapy.
