What to do about dampness at the root of the thigh and damp-heat in the lower jiao? Today, Dr. Liu shares six traditional Chinese medicines to help you “sweep away” damp-heat and feel relaxed all over.
What is the lower jiao? Besides dampness at the root of the thigh, what other symptoms might we experience?
Firstly, the lower jiao refers to the lower part of our body, including everything from our lower abdomen down, encompassing organs such as the kidneys, bladder, and large intestine.
Therefore, when we experience symptoms such as anal itching, urinary tract infections, loose and red stools, rashes on the lower body, and excessive sweating at the root of the thigh, it may all be related to damp-heat in the lower jiao.
So how do we clear this damp-heat? Today, Dr. Liu will help you analyze the pattern to determine the cause of the damp-heat, the affected organ, and the correct methods for adjustment.
First, damp-heat descending means that the damp-heat qi in our body is moving downwards and settling in the lower jiao. What symptoms might we have at this time?
Some people may experience cloudy urine, and during urination, there may be a stinging sensation in the urethra, along with a feeling of heaviness in the body, a lack of desire to move, and easy thirst with a dry mouth. The complexion may appear red, the tongue coating yellow and thick, and the tongue itself red. At this time, we can consider using Ba Zheng San (Eight Correcting Powder) to clear the damp-heat from the lower jiao.
Second, liver channel damp-heat. Some may wonder how the liver, which belongs to the middle jiao, can cause damp-heat in the lower jiao. This is because the liver channel runs through the lower part of the body, especially around the groin and root of the thigh.
So when you notice that your root of the thigh is always sweaty and damp, and sometimes your white clothes are stained yellow, along with a short temper and easy anger, dizziness, and pain in the sides, with a bitter taste in the mouth, a red tongue, and yellow tongue coating, it may indicate liver channel damp-heat. We can consider using Long Dan Cao Pian (Gentian Liver-Draining Tablets) to clear the damp-heat from the lower jiao.
Third, large intestine damp-heat. If you often feel anal itching and want to find a private place to scratch, and have difficulty with bowel movements because the stools are sticky, experiencing abdominal pain and bloating, and a burning sensation in the anus during defecation, sometimes even with anal bleeding, it may be due to large intestine damp-heat. We can consider using Ge Gen Qin Lian Pian (Pueraria and Scutellaria Tablets) to clear the damp-heat from the large intestine.
Fourth, kidney yin deficiency leading to internal heat. Traditional Chinese medicine often states that yin deficiency leads to heat. Kidney yin deficiency can easily lead to internal heat, and since the kidneys and bladder are interrelated, located in the lower jiao, kidney yin deficiency can also present as damp-heat in the lower jiao.
If you often have yellow and short urine, excessive sweating at the root of the thigh, and feel a burning sensation during urination, along with lower back soreness, fatigue, insomnia, night sweats, and red cheekbones, it may indicate kidney yin deficiency leading to damp-heat in the lower jiao. We can consider using Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan (Anemarrhena and Rehmannia Pill) to nourish yin and tonify the kidneys while clearing internal heat.
Fifth, spleen deficiency with excessive dampness leading to descending damp-heat. If our spleen and stomach are relatively weak and cannot transport excess moisture out of the body, this moisture can easily combine with the heat in the lower jiao, forming damp-heat.
What symptoms might such a person experience? They may have damp-heat in the lower jiao, but after taking damp-heat clearing medicines, the effects are not very noticeable, and they may experience a loss of appetite, abdominal distension, stomach pain, and loose stools, leading to diarrhea. At this time, we need to clear damp-heat while also tonifying the spleen and transforming dampness. We can consider using Er Miao Wan (Two Marvels Pill) to clear damp-heat, combined with Xiang Sha Liu Jun Wan (Aromatic Sand Six Gentlemen Pill) to tonify the spleen and transform dampness.
These are the common causes of damp-heat in the lower jiao shared by Dr. Liu. See which one you belong to. If you cannot determine it yourself, it is not advisable to use medication indiscriminately to avoid harming your body.
