Adjustment of Fluid Deficiency State

Clinical Manifestations: Dryness of the mouth, nose, lips, tongue, throat, and skin, or skin that is shriveled and lacks elasticity, sunken eyeballs, thirst, scanty and yellow urine, hard and difficult bowel movements, red tongue with little fluid, thin and rapid pulse, and weakness.

Treatment and Regulation: Focus on nourishing yin and generating fluids.

(1) Herbal Formula Regulation

Mai Men Dong Tang (Ophiopogon Decoction): This formula can nourish the lungs and stomach. Ingredients: 42g Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogon), 6g Ban Xia (Pinellia), 9g Ren Shen (Ginseng), 6g Gan Cao (Licorice), 6g Jing Mi (Glutinous Rice), 4 pieces of Da Zao (Jujube). Decoction in water to obtain 200-300ml of liquid, taken warm, 2-3 times daily. Suitable for deficiency heat lung atrophy, cough with phlegm, shortness of breath, dry throat and mouth, red tongue with little coating, and weak rapid pulse.

Zeng Ye Cheng Qi Tang (Increase Fluid and Purge Decoction): This formula can nourish yin, increase fluids, and purge heat for bowel movement. Ingredients: 30g Xuan Shen (Scrophularia), 24g Mai Dong (Ophiopogon), 24g Xi Shen Di (Rehmannia), 9g Da Huang (Rhubarb), 4.5g Mang Xiao (Mirabilite). Decoction in water, Mang Xiao taken separately. Suitable for Yangming warm disease, fluid deficiency with dry constipation, hard stools, thirst, dry red tongue, thin rapid pulse or deep weak pulse.

Xiyang Shen Jiu (American Ginseng Wine): 30g Xiyang Shen (American Ginseng), 100g Tian Men Dong (Asparagus), 100g Sheng Di (Rehmannia), 3 Jin (1.5 liters) of rice wine. Preparation: Chop the herbs, soak in rice wine, seal tightly, and let sit for 30 days. Function: Nourishes yin, reduces fire, and generates fluids. Dosage: 15-20ml, 1-2 times daily.

(2) Meridian Regulation

Acupuncture Regulation: Acupuncture at points such as Fu Liu, Pi Shu, Wei Shu, Zu San Li, and San Yin Jiao, retaining needles for 15-20 minutes, balancing tonification and reduction.

(3) Dietary Therapy

Sang Shen Wu Wei Zi Cha (Mulberry and Schisandra Tea): Take 50g of mulberries, 50g of honey, and 10g of Schisandra. Wash the mulberries and Schisandra, place in a clay pot with 2 bowls of water, boil on high heat, then simmer until reduced to 1 bowl. Cool to 30℃-40℃, strain through two layers of gauze, and mix in honey. Drink as needed. Function: Generates fluids, stops sweating, moistens the intestines, and promotes bowel movement.

He Ye Mu Xiang Zhou (Lotus Leaf and Costus Congee): Take 5g of Costus, 20g of Lotus Leaf, and 100g of glutinous rice. Wash and chop Costus and Lotus Leaf, place in a pot with adequate water, boil for 20 minutes, strain to keep the liquid; rinse the glutinous rice and set aside. Combine the liquid with glutinous rice in a pot, add adequate water, boil on high heat, then simmer for 40 minutes. Function: Generates fluids, quenches thirst, moistens the intestines, and promotes bowel movement.
