IIntroduction: When performing acupuncture treatment on patients, have you ever noticed the patient’s position? Adjusting their body to align with the sun at a certain angle can harness the power of heaven and earth to maximize therapeutic effects. Let’s explore Mr. Wu Qi’s experiences. (Editor/Wang Jiaqi)

Enhancing the Power of Acupuncture through Proper Positioning

Resonance of Heaven and Humanity: A Unique New Acupuncture Method and Case Studies

Author/Wu Qi

We analyzed the resonance between the heavenly and earthly Tai Chi energy fields and the human body. However, if the energy of the human body does not flow, the vast energy fields of heaven and earth hold little significance. The human energy field is dynamic, with a certain direction and speed, and under specific conditions, the large Tai Chi of heaven and earth and the small Tai Chi of the human body can produce a strong resonance effect.

For instance, when (1) the small Tai Chi of the human body aligns parallel to the energy field plane of the sun and earth; (2) the direction of energy flow in the small and large fields is consistent; and (3) the two dynamic parallel planes are synchronized, a strong field is generated, enhancing the resonance effect, similar to an atomic energy accelerator, strengthening the human energy field and gradually readjusting it to an optimal state.

If this Tai Chi energy field theory can be applied to guide clinical acupuncture, selecting specific acupuncture points such as the Five Transport Points (Wu Yu Xue) and the Back-Shu and Front-Mu points (Shu and Mu Xue), along with techniques like the Eight Methods of the Spirit Tortoise (Ling Gui Ba Fa), it may significantly improve the effects of acupuncture. The challenge is that some individuals have blockages in their Ren (Ren Mai) and Du (Du Mai) meridians, making it difficult to achieve resonance with the Tai Chi of heaven and earth. Below, I will explain how to apply this in clinical acupuncture.

When designing the treatment bed, I installed a wheel at each corner of the four pillars that can rotate 360 degrees, allowing the bed to turn at any angle. The patient lies supine on the bed, generally on their back, with the height of the pillow adjusted for comfort. Before noon and after midnight, the patient’s head should face the sun, with the soles of their feet away from it; after noon and before midnight, adjust the direction so that the soles of the feet face the sun, and the head is away from it.

From the perspective of Yin and Yang, it is clear that from noon to midnight, the sun’s direction is descending, representing Yin. At this time, if the Yin Ren Mai is aligned with the descending sun, the direction of energy flow in the Ren Mai matches the sun’s descent, enhancing the downward energy flow of the Ren Mai through resonance. Conversely, after midnight and before noon, the sun’s direction is ascending, representing Yang. If the Yang Du Mai is aligned with the ascending sun, the powerful energy of the sun can enhance the upward flow of Yang energy in the Du Mai, facilitating resonance and accelerating the circulation of the small Tai Chi of the Ren and Du meridians.

This is why using this method to guide students in selecting different directions for Qigong meditation and standing postures at different times yields excellent results. In clinical practice, using this method to leverage the energy fields of heaven, earth, and humanity for acupuncture treatment also proves effective. However, it is observed that some patients have difficulty activating their Ren and Du meridians, especially those with severe, complex, or chronic conditions, due to Qi stagnation and blood stasis, where phlegm and dampness obstruct the meridians. Even if the patient is positioned on the treatment bed as described, the Ren and Du meridians may still not activate under the guidance of the sun-earth energy field.

In such cases, the following methods should be employed:

1. Have the patient lie comfortably on their back, adjusting the treatment bed’s position and the patient’s head and foot orientation, using the Eight Methods of the Spirit Tortoise to select the appropriate acupuncture points based on the patient’s current meridian flow, or diagnose and treat according to their condition.

2. The practitioner adjusts their own position, either facing away from the sun (in the morning) or facing the sun (in the afternoon and early night), visualizing energy flowing from their lower Dantian down through the perineum, then up through the Du Mai, passing through the Three Passes, and over Baihui, then descending through the upper and middle Dantian back to the lower Dantian, rotating several times to synchronize their small Tai Chi with the Tai Chi of heaven and earth. At this point, the practitioner will feel warmth in their lower Dantian, and the Dazhui point will also feel warm, with a slight tingling sensation in the outer sides of their arms.

3. Using the activated Ren and Du meridians of the practitioner to influence the patient lying on the treatment bed, generally within 3-5 minutes, the patient’s own Ren and Du meridians will also begin to activate. To check if the patient’s Ren and Du meridians are activating, observe if they feel a slight tingling in the outer sides of their arms and fingertips (Yang meridians), a sensation of energy flowing from the soles of their feet (Yongquan point), which may feel cool, damp, or alternating between cold and hot.

The practitioner can use the index, middle, and ring fingers of one hand, pointing vertically towards the patient’s Ren Mai, relaxing the fingers, and moving the palm along the Ren Mai upwards and downwards. If the energy flow in the Ren Mai has begun to circulate, the energy will flow downward from above, as the Ren Mai is Yin and governs descent. Sometimes, when the practitioner moves their fingers downward, they may feel no sensation; however, moving their fingers upward will encounter a resistance, indicating the flow of Qi moving downward in the Ren Mai.

4. Adjust the treatment bed’s position again, ensuring the patient’s Ren and Du meridian arcs align with the sun’s direction, placing the arcs of the Ren and Du meridians in the same plane as the sun’s center. The moving Tai Chi energy field of heaven and earth (the sun moves 1 degree in the sky every 4 minutes) will continue to push and recharge the patient’s small Tai Chi energy field (characterized by the Ren and Du meridian arcs). I have achieved good results with many complex patients using this method in a short time. Below are a few examples.

Example 1: Cui, female, 34 years old. First diagnosed in September 1989, she had breast cancer two years prior and underwent surgery. Six months post-surgery, she experienced metastasis to the sternum, with severe chest pain and difficulty breathing for three months. Referred to me for treatment, I performed acupuncture on the Shen Mai and San Yin Jiao points after noon, with the patient lying on the treatment bed, aligning the soles of her feet with the sun. The treatment bed rotated, synchronizing the plane of her Ren and Du meridians with the direct sunlight (the Ren and Du meridians were in the same plane as the sun). The patient reported a very cold energy flow (described as icy water) flowing from her Yongquan point. After two treatments using the Tai Chi energy field acupuncture method, her chest pain gradually diminished and eventually stopped, with no recurrence for the next two to three months.

Example 2: Mary, a German woman in her 50s. She reported that during the latter part of World War II, at around 10 years old, she suffered from severe malnutrition due to hunger. After escaping Germany, she consumed a large amount of bread, dairy, and meat at a relative’s home, leading to bilateral leg edema that persisted for over 40 years. After consulting many doctors with little effect, she began treatment with me in 1989. Initially, I used acupuncture and herbal medicine, but the results were not very satisfactory. Later, I applied the Tai Chi energy field acupuncture method, and after three sessions, her leg swelling began to subside, completely disappearing after six sessions, with the results being stable. I invited her to share her treatment experience while lecturing on acupuncture at Stanford University, and the students were amazed.

Example 3: Pamela, female, 38 years old. A breast cancer patient. After undergoing surgery and chemotherapy, she experienced a drop in blood counts, fatigue, chest pain, and insomnia, in a state of extreme exhaustion, with a pale, swollen tongue and a thin, weak pulse. Referred to me for Tai Chi energy field treatment, after three sessions, her energy significantly improved, chest pain reduced, and sleep gradually improved, with blood counts rising. The patient reported a cold energy flowing from her Yongquan point, gradually decreasing after 30-40 minutes.

Example 4: Wang, female, 35 years old. A teacher at Taiyuan Railway No. 1 Middle School, suffering from a brain tumor, experienced frequent headaches 3-5 times daily, each lasting about an hour, with severe pain. First diagnosed in September 1987, I used the Tai Chi energy field treatment method. First, I resonated my small Tai Chi with the large Tai Chi energy field of heaven and earth; then I synchronized my Tai Chi field to influence the patient’s Ren and Du meridians; finally, I aligned the patient’s Ren and Du meridians with the large Tai Chi energy field. After 10 minutes, the patient’s headache significantly reduced, and it disappeared after two treatments.

Example 5: Zhang, female, over 40 years old. A patient with atrophic gastritis, first diagnosed in September 1987. The patient complained of loss of appetite, frequent abdominal bloating, fatigue, and constipation, in a state of exhaustion for nearly six months. I used the Tai Chi energy field therapy, similar to Example 3, and after two treatments, she expelled a large amount of foul-smelling stool, with a significant increase in appetite, and after three sessions, her abdominal bloating and pain greatly reduced.

Example 6: An, female, 50 years old. A breast cancer patient who refused chemotherapy post-surgery but felt fatigued, with chest tightness and low blood counts. Starting in early 1996, she underwent Tai Chi energy field acupuncture therapy, supplemented with herbal medicine, once a week. After three to four sessions, her energy significantly increased, her tongue changed from dark red to pale red, and she felt a marked improvement in her condition. During the energy field treatment, she closed her eyes and reported seeing colorful halos and beams of light oscillating and changing colors at her Tianmu point. Being an artist, she painted the images she saw during the treatment (see Figures 5-10).

(1) At the beginning of treatment, she saw gray-blue energy surging like a tide from her “Tianmu”; (2) After 2-3 minutes, the energy field transformed into deep blue, with a bright light band appearing in the center; (3) After 5 minutes, the light band became a dazzling energy mass; (4) After 10 minutes, the frequency of the Tai Chi energy field was continuously changing, eventually transforming into a high-energy, spectacular, beautiful purple-red glow, rotating in a Tai Chi shape.

In “Reality Five,” we discussed how different but similar entities can resonate under certain conditions, akin to the ancient Chinese philosophy of “like attracts like.” The effects of Qigong’s “distant diagnosis” and “distant treatment” have been confirmed by numerous clinical facts throughout history, but it wasn’t until 1978 that this was first validated by modern experiments.

This experiment was an unexpected discovery. To study the temperature changes caused by the Qi emitted by Qigong master Que Ashui, Lin Yagu and others used a Swedish AGA thermal imaging device for testing. The experiment demonstrated that when Que Ashui circulated his Qi, a heat flow was detected from the subject’s arm down to the palm. According to experimental protocols, there should also be a control subject who does not practice Qigong.

Unexpectedly, when Que Ashui’s internal Qi was circulating, the AGA thermal imaging device showed that a heat flow also appeared in the same area of the control subject’s body. This indicates the objective existence of Qi resonating in the same physiological areas between individuals, providing strong experimental evidence for the “distant” treatment and diagnosis of Qigong.

In fact, I have cleverly utilized the theory of Tai Chi energy fields, leveraging the resonance of Qi in the same physiological areas between individuals, and the resonance of Tai Chi rings between heaven and humanity, forming a continuous chain of Qi resonance that ultimately allows the energy field of heaven and earth to be adjusted, input, and supplemented to the patient through the practitioner (see Figure 5-11).
