After recovering from illness, the body cannot immediately bear a large amount of exercise, but gradually resuming gentle and moderate fitness activities can aid in recovery.
Post-Recovery Guidance (Part I): Poor transportation of fluids is the source of phlegm-dampness, and spleen deficiency with excess dampness is the root of obesity. This movement aids in fluid transportation and helps maintain body shape (Includes Video).
Today, I will share the second set of movements that help the body recover.
Have you ever experienced epigastric and hypochondriac distension and pain, acid reflux, a burning sensation in the stomach, or loss of appetite when feeling angry or depressed? Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) teaches that “liver and stomach disharmony” occurs when anger or unhappiness affects the spleen and stomach’s digestion. Excessive Qi can harm the liver, and when in a bad mood, it is easy to generate liver Qi stagnation, which can rebel against the stomach, leading to discomfort. How can we improve this? Today, I will guide you through a movement that alleviates liver and stomach disharmony: Soothing Liver and Opening the Arms to Benefit the Spleen and Stomach. In TCM, “liver and stomach disharmony” refers to poor emotional states, where anger or unhappiness affects the spleen and stomach’s digestion.Anger can sometimes lead to a poor appetite, belching, abdominal pain, or diarrhea, all of which are manifestations of liver and stomach disharmony. This movement helps to soothe the liver, regulate Qi, and harmonize the spleen and stomach, aiding digestion.Perform 50-100 repetitions until you sweat lightly. This can be done during menstruation and pregnancy. However, after recovering from illness, when practicing this movement, it is essential to reduce the intensity and practice slowly according to your own condition; do not overexert yourself, as this is crucial.Slow practice reduces heat and anger, nurturing Qi. When performing the movements, do not exert force; instead, relax and let Qi and blood circulate throughout the body.Movement InstructionsStand with your feet shoulder-width apart. Keep your spine straight and relaxed, with your eyes looking forward and breathing naturally. With your left hand open, draw an arc in front of your body, pivoting at the shoulder from right to left. When your hand reaches your side, bend your elbow and raise your palm, touching the Daba (大包) point under the armpit, then draw an arc with your right arm, finishing with your right palm at the right Daba (大包) point. Alternate between the left and right arms.As you draw the arc with your arms, spread your fingers and let your eyes follow your hands. Repeat this motion.Ending Position: Bend your elbows and lower both arms from the Daba (大包) point back to your sides naturally.Key Point: Let your eyes follow your hands. Some feedback from netizens:Netizen: I felt the urge to go to the bathroom right after doing it.
