Women’s health issues are often more complex than men’s. The renowned physician Sun Simiao once said, “Many doctors would rather treat ten men than one woman.”
But did you know? Using moxibustion to treat gynecological conditions can simplify the process significantly.
Moxibustion Can Treat Multiple Conditions Simultaneously
As long as it is done consistently, moxibustion can effectively treat many gynecological issues.
For example, infertility, cold uterus, dysmenorrhea, irregular menstruation, scanty menstruation, excessive menstruation, amenorrhea, uterine bleeding (metrorrhagia), pelvic inflammatory disease, pelvic fluid accumulation and masses, adnexitis, vaginitis, vulvar itching, cervical polyps, and cervical erosion.
Conditions such as blocked or partially blocked fallopian tubes, ovarian dysfunction, anovulation, polycystic ovary syndrome, cysts; uterine prolapse, retroverted or left-tilted uterus, endometriosis, adenomyosis, fibroids; breast hyperplasia, lobular hyperplasia, breast tenderness, breast nodules, fibromas, breast cancer; and postpartum wind.
Often, while treating one condition with moxibustion, another condition may be unknowingly resolved. In other words, moxibustion can treat multiple conditions at once.
Why Can Moxibustion Regulate Multiple Gynecological Conditions?
Moxibustion is particularly suitable for women!
This is because most gynecological issues arise from cold dampness, qi stagnation, blood stasis, blocked meridians, and blood deficiency.
In other words, the internal environment or climate is unfavorable. Just like a cold and damp day without sunlight, over time, this leads to qi stagnation and blood stasis, causing the meridians to become obstructed, metabolic waste products cannot be expelled, and fresh blood cannot be transported properly, resulting in various diseases.
It is similar to items becoming moldy and rotten in a cold and damp environment, or freezing in severe winter. This also continuously depletes the body’s yang energy, worsening the condition.
To fundamentally cure these diseases, one must improve the internal environment or climate. Moxibustion can tonify the yuan yang (元阳), dispel cold and dampness, unblock the meridians, and reduce inflammation and pain, directly addressing these symptoms.
By using moxibustion to transform the internal climate into a sunny and bright one, the ice and snow will melt, the gloom will dissipate, and the meridians will become unobstructed, thus fundamentally curing many diseases. When the environment of illness is improved, the diseases will naturally disappear.
Why Does Western Medicine Often Treat Symptoms Rather Than Root Causes?
Western medicine categorizes diseases very finely, often failing to identify the true cause of illness, leading to isolated treatments. If there are masses or tumors, surgery is performed to remove them; if there is inflammation, medication is prescribed…
In fact, this is merely treating symptoms rather than addressing the root cause. The pathogenic factors may manifest in other forms, some may recur, and others may appear in different locations as new diseases.
In other words, while tangible issues are removed, the real causes of illness remain unaddressed. Most of these causes are intangible and cannot be detected by Western medical equipment and instruments. Moreover, surgery can deplete the body’s vital energy, leading to worsening conditions and more diseases.
Moxibustion treats gynecological diseases holistically, gradually improving the internal climate. While treating one disease, it can simultaneously resolve others. With persistence, over time, all diseases can be cured!
Can Medication Cure So Many Gynecological Diseases?
Medication is an internal treatment. If you encounter a doctor like Hua Tuo, it can certainly work. Or if you find a highly skilled TCM practitioner who prescribes accurately, it can be effective.
However, many people are not so fortunate. If they encounter a practitioner who prescribes incorrectly, not only will the disease not be cured, but it may also have adverse effects, and the side effects of medications can cause new harm to the body.
Moxibustion primarily creates conditions, supplements yuan yang, and relies on the body’s self-healing ability for regulation. In modern terms, it harnesses human potential for healing, which minimizes deviations. The body’s self-healing ability is far superior to even the most skilled doctors.
Moxibustion Unblocks Meridians: When Meridians Are Clear, All Diseases Disappear
To effectively use the body’s self-healing ability, certain conditions must be met. There must be sufficient yuan yang, adequate qi and blood, and one must sleep well at night…
When the body has been ill for a long time, yuan yang is inevitably deficient. When yuan yang is deficient, the self-healing ability is low, and it cannot combat pathogenic factors. Moxibustion can replenish yuan yang, and when yuan yang is sufficient, many functions can be activated. With yuan yang, the body’s internal sun can be ignited, and with sunlight, vitality is restored, enhancing self-healing ability. Moxibustion unblocks the meridians, and when the meridians are clear, diseases do not arise.
Most people do not understand moxibustion, so they naturally do not believe in it. However, more and more people are beginning to trust and practice moxibustion, experiencing its miraculous effects!
When you have been ill for a long time, do not despair; there is still moxibustion. If other methods have not cured your illness, why not try moxibustion? It may create miracles!
Moxibustion Treatment Plans for Gynecological Diseases
1Cervicitis
Moxibustion Points: Guanyuan (关元), Zigong (子宫), Huilai (归来), San Yin Jiao (三阴交), and Ba Liao (八髎).
Method: Select 5-6 acupoints each time, moxibustion for 10-15 minutes per point with moxa sticks, or 30-45 minutes per point with a moxibustion device. A treatment course lasts 7 days, followed by a 1-day break, and generally, 3 treatment courses are recommended. Moxibustion should continue until the skin shows a rosy hue and a warm, comfortable sensation.
2Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
Moxibustion Points: San Yin Jiao (三阴交), Ashi (阿是).
Method: Select 5-6 acupoints each time, moxibustion for 10-15 minutes per point with moxa sticks, or 30-45 minutes per point with a moxibustion device. A treatment course lasts 7 days, followed by a 1-2 day break, and generally, 1-2 treatment courses are recommended. In addition to moxibustion at San Yin Jiao, moxibustion can also be applied to abdominal tender points. Moxibustion should continue until the skin shows a rosy hue and a warm, comfortable sensation.
3Irregular Menstruation
There are many causes of irregular menstruation, such as work stress, psychological factors, and excessive exposure to cold (prioritizing appearance over warmth).
Experts analyze: Women exposed to cold during their menstrual period may experience vasoconstriction in the pelvic area, leading to ovarian dysfunction, which can cause scanty menstruation or even amenorrhea.
-
Blood Deficiency Type Irregular Menstruation
Symptoms include late menstruation, scanty flow, pale color, thin texture, accompanied by dizziness, insomnia, palpitations, pale complexion, fatigue, pale tongue, and weak pulse.
Moxibustion Points: Shanzhong (膻中), Guanyuan (关元), Zigong (子宫), Neiguan (内关), Yongquan (涌泉).
Method: Moxibustion at Guanyuan and Zigong for no less than 40 minutes, and Neiguan and Yongquan for 30 minutes each.
-
Kidney Deficiency Type Irregular Menstruation
Symptoms include late onset of menstruation, delayed cycle, scanty flow, normal or dull color, thin texture, accompanied by lower back pain, normal or pale tongue, and deep pulse. Treatment should focus on tonifying the kidneys and nourishing the blood.
Moxibustion Points: Ba Liao (八髎), Huilai (归来), San Yin Jiao (三阴交).
Method: Moxibustion at Huilai for no less than 35 minutes; Ba Liao and San Yin Jiao for no less than 45 minutes each.
-
Cold Blood Type Irregular Menstruation
Symptoms include late menstruation, scanty dark flow, clots, or pale thin texture, accompanied by lower abdominal cold pain, preference for warmth and pressure, relief with heat, or cold limbs, clear long urine, thin stools, pale tongue, thin white coating, and deep tight or deep weak pulse. Treatment should focus on warming the meridians, dispelling cold, and regulating menstruation.
Moxibustion Points: Guanyuan (关元), Ba Liao (八髎), San Yin Jiao (三阴交), Zu San Li (足三里).
Method: Moxibustion at Guanyuan and Ba Liao for 45 minutes each, and Zu San Li and San Yin Jiao for 40 minutes each.
-
Qi Stagnation Type Irregular Menstruation
Symptoms include late menstruation, scanty dark flow with clots, difficult discharge, accompanied by lower abdominal distension and pain, breast distension, mental depression, normal or slightly dark tongue, and wiry pulse. Treatment should focus on moving qi and invigorating blood.
Moxibustion Points: Guanyuan (关元), Mingmen (命门), Jianjing (肩井), Taichong (太冲).
Method: Moxibustion at Guanyuan and Mingmen for 30 minutes each, and Jianjing and Taichong for 20 minutes each.
Scanty menstruation is often caused by prolonged illness, blood loss, postpartum depletion of essence and blood, or spleen deficiency leading to insufficient blood; or congenital insufficiency, excessive childbirth, or laborious work depleting kidney essence, leading to kidney deficiency affecting the Chong and Ren meridians; or excessive consumption of cold food or exposure to cold, causing blood to congeal; or mental depression, emotional stagnation, and qi stagnation.
Both excessive and insufficient menstruation are abnormal and stem from poor endocrine function.
4Vulvar Itching and Abnormal Discharge
Moxibustion Points: Dai Mai (带脉), Qihai (气海), San Yin Jiao (三阴交), Zu San Li (足三里).
-
For liver and gallbladder damp-heat, add Taichong (太冲), Xingjian (行间), Yinlingquan (阴陵泉);
-
For spleen deficiency with excess dampness, add Fenglong (丰隆), Pishu (脾俞), Zhongwan (中脘), Xiaochangyu (小肠俞);
-
For kidney deficiency with damp-heat, add Shen Yu (肾俞), Taixi (太溪), Fenglong (丰隆), Xingjian (行间).
Method: Use moxa sticks for suspended moxibustion, selecting 3-5 acupoints each time, moxibustion for 10-15 minutes per point, or 30-40 minutes per point with a moxibustion device. Moxibustion should be performed once daily, with 7 sessions constituting one treatment course.
5Uterine Prolapse
Uterine prolapse occurs when the uterus descends or protrudes outside the vaginal opening, sometimes accompanied by the vaginal wall or bladder and rectum bulging out. This is often due to qi deficiency leading to descent, loss of the Dai Mai’s support, damage to the Chong and Ren meridians, or excessive childbirth, difficult labor, or premature return to heavy physical labor postpartum, which damages the uterine support and kidney qi, resulting in the uterus losing its support.
Moxibustion Points: Baihui (百会), Shenque (神阙), Zigong (子宫), San Yin Jiao (三阴交), etc.
Method: Use moxa sticks for suspended moxibustion at Baihui, moxibustion for 10 minutes each time, once daily. Start with daily sessions, and after 5 days, switch to every other day for 20 minutes each time.
6Uterine Hemorrhage
Moxibustion at the Yinbai (隐白) point is a simple and effective treatment for uterine hemorrhage.
Perform suspended moxibustion for 15-20 minutes (first on one side, then the other), or use a moxibustion device for 40-50 minutes, until the skin around the Yinbai point turns red and feels warm. Moxibustion can be performed 3-4 times daily, and after bleeding stops, continue for 1-2 more days to consolidate the effect.
During moxibustion, patients often feel the tightness or emptiness in the lower abdomen dissipate, and their mood brightens. Menstrual flow often significantly decreases shortly after moxibustion.
Why can moxibustion at the Yinbai point stop uterine hemorrhage?
Traditional Chinese medicine believes that the main cause of uterine hemorrhage is the instability of the Chong and Ren meridians and disharmony of the internal organs. Therefore, treatment should focus on tonifying the liver, strengthening the spleen, nourishing the kidneys, and regulating the Chong and Ren meridians, with particular emphasis on strengthening the spleen.
The Yinbai point is an important acupoint on the foot’s Taiyin spleen meridian. According to meridian theory, stimulating the Yinbai point has the effect of strengthening the spleen, stabilizing blood, and tonifying qi.
While moxibustion at the Yinbai point is effective for uterine hemorrhage, if the patient experiences significant bleeding, they should be promptly taken to the hospital.
