Recently, discussions about what constitutes “yang energy” have frequently topped the trending searches, sparking heated public debate.
Whether it is the Ministry of Education’s proposal on preventing the feminization of young male students, emphasizing the cultivation of students’ yang energy, or the literary community criticizing the effeminate image of fan culture and its negative impact on aesthetics.
From “saving boys” to “abandoning little fresh meat,” related discussions continue to emerge, with everyone expressing their opinions.
Setting aside some opposing viewpoints, from a health perspective, it is indeed true that many men today lack yang energy and exhibit a yang deficiency constitution, lacking vitality.
“Yang energy” generally refers to a positive and uplifting spirit, a broad-minded and strong demeanor, adherence to correct principles, and righteous behavior, often used to describe men. According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), yang energy should be abundant, with a full spirit and vitality.
Three Treasures of the Human Body: Jing, Qi, Shen
There is a saying: “Heaven has three treasures: sun, moon, and stars; humans have three treasures: jing, qi, and shen.”
When the body’s jing and qi are insufficient, it presents a state of weakness and lethargy, with symptoms such as a haggard appearance, insufficient yang energy, and decreased resistance, indicating premature aging.
Psychologically, it may manifest as timidity, fearfulness, anxiety, introversion, and reluctance to socialize.
So, what do jing, qi, and shen actually refer to?
“Jing” refers to kidney essence, “qi” refers to kidney qi and original qi, and “shen” refers to spirit.
The Huangdi Neijing states: “The kidney governs water and stores the essences of the five organs and six bowels.” Kidney essence is the source of life. Qi is not merely the air exhaled by the body, but an invisible energy generated from kidney essence, which circulates with blood, collectively referred to as “qi and blood.” Shen is an external manifestation of the fullness of qi and blood. The Ma Yi Shen Xiang states: “When qi is strong, shen is complete.” A vibrant spirit stems from the fullness of qi and blood, which relies on abundant kidney essence for its generation, thus the root lies in kidney essence.
Modern Men Often Exhibit Yang Deficiency Constitution
As the economy develops rapidly, people’s material lives have improved significantly. However, as hardware facilities improve, people’s physical conditions have worsened.
Especially modern men often exhibit a yang deficiency constitution, lacking yang energy.
Externally, this manifests as lethargy, lack of concentration, frequent illness, and a tendency to be inactive. Additionally, symptoms such as frequent nighttime urination, enuresis, and clear urine are common. Yang deficiency in men can also lead to decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, spermatorrhea, and prostatitis.
Winter Moxibustion Revitalizes Male Hormones
Mr. Liu is a local from Guangzhou, working in a foreign company in corporate management. Due to a fast-paced work environment and high pressure, his lifestyle habits are poor.
As a result, he often experiences lower back pain, a cold sensation in the lower back, and cold sensitivity in the knees, all of which are clear signs of insufficient yang energy.
The director of Suian Hall selected the Guanyuan (CV4) acupuncture point based on his constitution. During the first three hours of moxibustion, Mr. Liu reported a slight pain in the treated area, a warming sensation in the lower back, and noticeable gas release from the abdomen. As the moxibustion continued, Mr. Liu’s bodily responses became more pronounced, with warmth spreading from his thighs to his knees and feet, making him feel particularly comfortable and energized.
After the moxibustion, Mr. Liu expressed that he had to admit the miraculous effects of moxibustion; the symptoms of lower back pain and cold sensitivity in the knees had disappeared, and he particularly felt that his masculine charm had increased, with no previous signs of weakness.
The Miraculous Effects of Winter Moxibustion
Winter moxibustion involves selecting appropriate acupuncture points for moxibustion during the winter solstice, maximizing the storage of yang energy (the body’s biological energy) within the body.
Winter moxibustion has the effects of tonifying the original qi, nourishing the kidneys, consolidating the essence, and strengthening the body and bones, and can treat symptoms such as erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, spermatorrhea, enuresis, and weakness.
Winter moxibustion is a type of scar moxibustion, which has better health and therapeutic effects due to the formation of scars. The scars formed at the acupuncture points act as a “lifetime adjustment switch,” allowing for the effect of “tonifying when deficient and draining when excessive,” which is particularly effective for stubborn conditions related to weakness.
The Guanyuan (CV4) acupuncture point is located three inches below the navel (four fingerbreadths below the navel), historically referred to as the intersection of the body’s original yin and yang. TCM believes that the Guanyuan point has the function of nurturing the original essence and benefiting the lower jiao, serving as a storage point for men’s essence and women’s blood. Therefore, performing winter moxibustion at this point can store yang energy within the body, tonifying kidney deficiency and achieving the effect of strengthening the kidneys and enhancing yang.
In addition to the Guanyuan point, there are other special acupuncture points that also serve as switches for “internal absorption” of yang energy. The director will select the most beneficial acupuncture points based on the patient’s physical condition for moxibustion.
If you feel that you have a yang deficiency constitution, often getting out of breath after a few steps, feeling mentally fatigued, and lacking strength, then take the opportunity during the winter solstice to come to Suian Hall for winter moxibustion treatment. Winter moxibustion occurs only once a year, so don’t miss it and wait until next year.
Wishing you better health
