1. For heart cold, use Gui Zhi (Cinnamon Twig); for heat, use Sheng Di (Rehmannia) and Zhi Zi (Gardenia).

2. For spleen cold, use Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger); for heat, use Da Huang (Rhubarb).

3. For liver cold, use Wu Zhu Yu (Evodia); for heat, use Yin Chen (Virgate Wormwood).

4. For lung cold, use Xi Xin (Asarum); for heat, use Sang Bai Pi (Mulberry Root Bark).

5. For gallbladder cold, use Wen Dan Tang (Warm Gallbladder Decoction); for heat, use Long Dan Cao (Gentian).

6. For insufficient water, use Mai Dong (Ophiopogon) and Yu Zhu (Polygonatum); for weak fire, use Fu Zi (Aconite).

7. The yin in Li (the heart) is true water; the yang in Kan (the kidney) is true fire.

8. Cold should be warmed; heat should be cleared.

9. If true fire is weak, it is advisable to tonify fire; if true water is deficient, it is advisable to nourish yin.

10. When water and fire return to the source, all evils are repelled.

11. Thick earth stores fire, and thick earth also carries water.

12. True fire that does not store will float and wander.

13. True water without earth cannot exist.

14. Water, fire, and earth are the pillars of life.
