Tai Yang Disease
Tai Yang is primarily caused by wind, treated with Gui Zhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction).
For Shang Han (Cold Damage), use Ma Huang Tang (Ephedra Decoction).
For simultaneous wind and cold, use Gui Zhi Ma Huang Ge Ban Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Ephedra Decoction in equal parts).
If there is internal heat with Shang Han, use Da Qing Long Tang (Major Blue Dragon Decoction).
If there is internal heat with wind stroke, use Gui Zhi Er Yue Bi Yi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction with two doses of Ban Xia).
If there is water retention in the upper jiao due to Shang Han, use Xiao Qing Long Tang (Minor Blue Dragon Decoction).
If the exterior has resolved but there is internal dryness, use Bai Hu Tang (White Tiger Decoction) or Bai Hu Jia Ren Shen Tang (White Tiger Decoction with Ginseng).
If the exterior has not resolved and there is internal dampness, use Wu Ling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria) or Fu Ling Gan Cao Tang (Poria and Licorice Decoction).
If the exterior has resolved but there is heat binding in the blood level, use Tao He Cheng Qi Tang (Peach Pit Decoction), Di Dang Tang (Rescue the Yang Decoction), or Wan (Pills).
Tai Yang Complicated Disease
Pathway to Yang Ming:
If the exterior cold has not resolved and there is internal heat, use Ma Huang Xing Ren Gan Cao Shi Gao Tang (Ephedra, Apricot Kernel, Licorice, and Gypsum Decoction).
If the exterior has resolved but there is internal dryness, use Ren Shen Shi Gao Tang (Ginseng and Gypsum Decoction).
If the exterior has resolved and there is internal heat, use Tiao Wei Cheng Qi Tang (Regulate the Stomach and Order the Qi Decoction).
Pathway to Tai Yin:
If the exterior has not resolved and there is internal dampness, use Wu Ling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria).
If the exterior has resolved but there is internal Yang deficiency, use Gan Cao Gan Jiang Tang (Licorice and Dried Ginger Decoction).
If the exterior has resolved but there is internal Yin deficiency, use Shao Yao Gan Cao Tang (Peony and Licorice Decoction).
If the exterior has not resolved and there is internal cold urgency, first use Si Ni Tang (Frigid Extremities Decoction), then use Gui Zhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction).
If the exterior wind has not resolved and there is internal deficiency, use Gui Zhi Jia Shao Yao Sheng Jiang Ren Shen Xin Jia Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction with Peony, Fresh Ginger, and Ginseng).
If the exterior has not resolved and there is internal heat, use Ge Gen Huang Qin Huang Lian Tang (Kudzu, Scutellaria, and Coptis Decoction).
If the exterior has not resolved and there is internal cold, use Gui Zhi Qu Shao Yao Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction without Peony) or Gui Zhi Qu Shao Yao Jia Fu Zi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction without Peony with Aconite).
If the exterior wind has not resolved and there is slight cough, use Gui Zhi Jia Hou Po Xing Ren Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction with Magnolia Bark and Apricot Kernel).
If the exterior has resolved and there is internal dampness, use Gui Zhi Qu Shao Yao Jia Fu Ling Bai Zhu Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction without Peony with Poria and Atractylodes).
If there is exterior deficiency and internal excess, use Nong Po Sheng Jiang Gan Cao Ban Xia Ren Shen Tang (Thick and Rich Ginger, Licorice, Pinellia, and Ginseng Decoction).
If there is internal excess suitable for vomiting, use Zhi Zi Nong Po Tang (Gardenia and Thick and Rich Decoction), Zhi Zi Gan Jiang Tang (Gardenia and Dried Ginger Decoction), Zhi Zi Xiang Chi Tang (Gardenia and Soybean Decoction), Zhi Zi Gan Cao Tang (Gardenia and Licorice Decoction), Zhi Zi Sheng Jiang Tang (Gardenia and Fresh Ginger Decoction), according to the symptoms.
Pathway to Shao Yin:
If there is exterior deficiency with sweating, use Gui Zhi Jia Fu Zi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction with Aconite) (sweating does not stop, aversion to wind, difficulty urinating, limbs are tense and difficult to bend).
If there is internal deficiency with aversion to cold, use Shao Yao Gan Cao Fu Zi Tang (Peony and Licorice with Aconite).
If there is internal cold with dampness, use Fu Ling Bai Zhu Gui Zhi Gan Cao Tang (Poria, Atractylodes, Cinnamon Twig, and Licorice Decoction).
If there is internal cold with water, use Zhen Wu Tang (True Warrior Decoction).
If there is internal deficiency with Yang collapse, use Gui Zhi Gan Cao Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Licorice Decoction).
If there is internal cold leading to a feeling of impending disaster, use Gui Zhi Jia Gui Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction with Cinnamon) or Fu Ling Gui Zhi Gan Cao Da Zao Tang (Poria, Cinnamon Twig, Licorice, and Jujube Decoction).
If there is internal deficiency with Yang collapse and agitation, use Gui Zhi Qu Shao Yao Jia Shu Qi Long Gu Mu Li Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction without Peony with Dragon Bone and Oyster).
If there is internal deficiency with Yang collapse and restlessness, use Gui Zhi Gan Cao Long Gu Mu Li Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Licorice Decoction with Dragon Bone and Oyster).
If the exterior has resolved and there is internal Yang deficiency, use Fu Ling Si Ni Tang (Poria Frigid Extremities Decoction) or Gan Jiang Fu Zi Tang (Dried Ginger and Aconite Decoction).
Tai Yang Complicated Disease with Chest Binding and Distension Syndrome
For severe chest binding syndrome, use Da Xian Xiong Tang (Major Chest-Blocking Decoction) or Da Xian Xiong Wan (Major Chest-Blocking Pills).
For mild cases, use Xiao Xian Xiong Tang (Minor Chest-Blocking Decoction).
For distension syndrome with unresolved exterior and internal deficiency, use Gui Zhi Ren Shen Tang (Cinnamon Twig and Ginseng Decoction).
If the exterior has resolved and there is internal excess with heat above, use Da Huang Huang Lian Xie Xin Tang (Rhubarb and Coptis Decoction to Drain the Heart).
If the exterior has resolved and there is internal excess with cold below, use Fu Zi Xie Xin Tang (Aconite Decoction to Drain the Heart).
If the exterior has resolved and there is internal water, use Shi Zao Tang (Ten Jujube Decoction).
If the exterior has resolved and there is internal cold and heat, use Sheng Jiang Xie Xin Tang (Fresh Ginger Decoction to Drain the Heart) or Gan Cao Xie Xin Tang (Licorice Decoction to Drain the Heart).
If there is internal dampness with slippery stools, use Chi Shi Zhi Yu Yu Liang Tang (Red Stone Fat and Yu Liang Decoction).
If there is internal dampness with water retention, use Wu Ling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria).
If the exterior has resolved and there is internal stagnation, use Xuan Fu Hua Dai Zhe Shi Tang (Inula and Hematite Decoction).
If there is internal cold suitable for vomiting, use Gua Ti San (Melon Seed Decoction).
Yang Ming Disease
Yang Ming disease, if the Tai Yang channel symptoms have not resolved, for wind stroke, still use Gui Zhi Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction), for Shang Han, still use Ma Huang Tang (Ephedra Decoction).
If the Tai Yang has not resolved and is about to enter Yang Ming, use Gui Zhi Jia Ge Gen Tang (Cinnamon Twig Decoction with Kudzu).
If the Tai Yang has not resolved and has already entered Yang Ming, use Ge Gen Tang (Kudzu Decoction).
If both Yang channels have not resolved and there is internal stagnation, use Ge Gen Jia Ban Xia Tang (Kudzu Decoction with Pinellia), if the exterior has resolved and there is internal heat, use Tiao Wei Cheng Qi Tang (Regulate the Stomach and Order the Qi Decoction).
If the exterior has resolved and there is slight internal excess, use Xiao Cheng Qi Tang (Minor Order the Qi Decoction).
If the exterior has resolved and there is significant internal excess, use Da Cheng Qi Tang (Major Order the Qi Decoction).
If there is internal excess and fluid depletion, use Mi Jian Dao Fang (Secretly Boiled Decoction) or Zhu Dan Zhi Fang (Pig Gallbladder Decoction).
If there is internal excess and spleen contraction, use Ma Ren Wan (Hemp Seed Pill).
If there is internal excess and blood stasis, use Di Dang Tang (Rescue the Yang Decoction).
Yang Ming Disease Deficiency Syndrome
For Yang Ming deficiency syndrome, if there is internal cold and excess water, use Si Ni Tang (Frigid Extremities Decoction).
If there is internal cold and spleen deficiency, use Wu Zhu Yu Tang (Evodia Decoction).
If there is internal accumulation of dampness, use Wu Ling San (Five-Ingredient Powder with Poria).
If there is internal deficiency heat, use Zhi Zi Chi Tang (Gardenia and Soybean Decoction) or Bai Hu Jia Ren Shen Tang (White Tiger Decoction with Ginseng).
If there is internal damp-heat, use Zhu Ling Tang (Polyporus Decoction).
If there is internal dryness heat, use Bai Hu Tang (White Tiger Decoction).
If there is internal stasis heat, use Yin Chen Hao Tang (Artemisia Scoparia Decoction).
Shao Yang Disease
Shao Yang disease is primarily caused by qi stagnation, with disharmony between the exterior and interior, treated with Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction).
If the Tai Yang channel symptoms have not resolved, and suddenly enter Shao Yang, use Chai Hu Gui Zhi Tang (Bupleurum and Cinnamon Twig Decoction).
If the Tai Yang disease has not resolved and there is internal excess, use Ma Huang Tang (Ephedra Decoction).
If Shao Yang disease is present with internal deficiency, use Xiao Jian Zhong Tang (Minor Build the Middle Decoction).
If there is a combination of Tai Shao disease with diarrhea, use Huang Qin Tang (Scutellaria Decoction). If there is vomiting, use Huang Qin Jia Ban Xia Sheng Jiang Tang (Scutellaria Decoction with Pinellia and Fresh Ginger).
If the exterior has not resolved and there is internal excess, use Da Chai Hu Tang (Major Bupleurum Decoction).
If the exterior has resolved and there is internal heat, use Tiao Wei Cheng Qi Tang (Regulate the Stomach and Order the Qi Decoction).
If a woman has heat entering the blood chamber, use Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction).
Shao Yang Complicated Disease
Pathway to Yang Ming: if there is internal deficiency with palpitations and agitation, use Xiao Jian Zhong Tang (Minor Build the Middle Decoction).
If there is internal deficiency with palpitations, use Zhi Gan Cao Tang (Honey-Fried Licorice Decoction).
If there is internal deficiency with agitation and confusion, use Chai Hu Jia Long Gu Mu Li Tang (Bupleurum Decoction with Dragon Bone and Oyster).
If the Shao Yang disease has not resolved, still use Xiao Chai Hu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction). If the exterior has not resolved and there is internal excess, still use Da Chai Hu Tang (Major Bupleurum Decoction).
If the exterior has not resolved and there is internal heat, use Chai Hu Jia Mang Xiao Tang (Bupleurum Decoction with Mirabilite).
Pathway to Tai Yin: if the exterior and interior have not resolved, use Chai Hu Gui Zhi Gan Jiang Tang (Bupleurum, Cinnamon Twig, and Dried Ginger Decoction).
Shao Yang Complicated Disease with Chest Binding and Distension Syndrome

If there is exterior cold stagnation leading to internal damp-heat, use Yin Chen Hao Tang (Artemisia Scoparia Decoction).
If there is exterior damp stagnation leading to internal stasis heat, use Ma Huang Lian Qiao Chi Xiao Dou Tang (Ephedra, Forsythia, and Red Bean Decoction).
If there is both exterior and interior stasis heat, use Zhi Zi Bai Pi Tang (Gardenia and Cortex Phellodendri Decoction).
Shao Yin Disease
Shao Yin disease, if both exterior and interior are cold, use Ma Huang Fu Zi Xi Xin Tang (Ephedra, Aconite, and Asarum Decoction) or Ma Huang Fu Zi Gan Cao Tang (Ephedra, Aconite, and Licorice Decoction).
If there is internal cold with excess water, use Si Ni Tang (Frigid Extremities Decoction).
If there is internal cold with spleen deficiency, use Fu Zi Tang (Aconite Decoction).
If there is internal heat rising causing throat pain, use Gan Cao Tang (Licorice Decoction) or Jie Geng Tang (Platycodon Decoction).
If there is internal Yin counterflow causing throat pain, use Ban Xia San (Pinellia Powder) or Ban Xia Tang (Pinellia Decoction).
If there is throat pain with ulcers and inability to speak, use Ku Jiu Tang (Bitter Wine Decoction).
If there is throat pain with chest fullness and agitation, use Zhu Fu Tang (Pig Skin Decoction).
If there is internal cold with spleen deficiency, use Wu Zhu Yu Tang (Evodia Decoction).
If there is internal cold with water retention, use Zhen Wu Tang (True Warrior Decoction) or Zhu Ling Tang (Polyporus Decoction).
If there is internal heat with dampness, use Si Ni Tang (Frigid Extremities Decoction).
If there is internal cold with weak Yang, use Tong Mai Si Ni Tang (Open the Pulse and Frigid Extremities Decoction).

If there is internal cold with diarrhea of pus and blood, use Tao Hua Tang (Peach Blossom Decoction).
If there is internal heat with fluid depletion, use Huang Lian A Jiao Tang (Coptis and Donkey-hide Gelatin Decoction).
If there is internal heat with water depletion, use Da Cheng Qi Tang (Major Order the Qi Decoction).
Jue Yin Disease
Jue Yin disease, if there is internal cold with vomiting of roundworms, use Wu Mei Wan (Mume Pill).
If there is exterior cold with internal deficiency, use Dang Gui Si Ni Tang (Angelica Decoction for Frigid Extremities).
If there is internal accumulation of cold, use Dang Gui Si Ni Jia Wu Zhu Yu Sheng Jiang Tang (Angelica Decoction for Frigid Extremities with Evodia and Fresh Ginger).

If there is Yang returning and internal heat with diarrhea, use Bai Tou Weng Tang (White Headed Weng Decoction).
If there is Yang returning and internal heat with dry stools, use Xiao Cheng Qi Tang (Minor Order the Qi Decoction).
If there is Yang returning and internal heat with agitation, use Zhi Zi Chi Tang (Gardenia and Soybean Decoction).
