Key Points
The “Huangdi Neijing” states: “When the evil wind arrives, it is as swift as wind and rain.”The external evil wind comes from outside, rapidly affecting the body. External pathogens harm the body and cause illness quickly.
The transmission pattern is: from the skin, muscles, meridians, to the six fu organs and five zang organs, from the surface to the interior, from superficial to deep. The disease of the five zang organs is the deepest, and if treatment is delayed, it becomes more complicated, so early treatment is essential. Mulberry Leaf and Chrysanthemum Decoction: Specifically Treats Wind-Heat Syndrome
Recently, as temperatures gradually rise, combined with the vigorous wind and wood of late spring, it is easy to develop wind-heat syndrome, such as heat rash, and wind-heat colds also take advantage of this time, leading to sore throat, fever, cough, and headache.
There is a classic formula “Mulberry Leaf and Chrysanthemum Decoction”, which comes from the Qing Dynasty physician Wu Jutong’s “Wenbing Tiaobian”.The formula consists of: 9g of mulberry leaves (Sang Ye), 12g of chrysanthemum (Ju Hua), 9g of apricot kernel (Xing Ren), 9g of forsythia (Lian Qiao), 6g of mint (Bo He), 9g of platycodon (Jie Geng), 30g of reed rhizome (Lu Gen), and 9g of licorice (Gan Cao).
Mulberry leaves are effective in dispelling internal wind and have a good heat-clearing effect; chrysanthemum directly enters the lung meridian, clears lung heat, and effectively releases the exterior. The heavy use of these two herbs in the formula works together to dispel wind-heat and relieve cough, specifically treating the initial symptoms of wind-heat.
If symptoms match, you can consult a qualified TCM practitioner at a legitimate medical institution for a prescription, or you can purchase the patent medicine “Mulberry Leaf and Chrysanthemum Granules”.
Generally speaking, individuals with insufficient body fluids and yin deficiency are more prone to wind-heat colds. In addition to using Mulberry Leaf and Chrysanthemum Decoction, it is also important to replenish the righteous qi to ensure adequate body fluids; when body fluids are sufficient, the meridians and qi-blood flow smoothly, which will help expel external pathogens.
There are many ways to enhance righteous qi, such as: ☞ Sunbathing, ☞ Practicing standing meditation. (Click the blue text to learn specific methods)
To nourish yin, I recommend “Black Plum and Three Beans Decoction”. Take 3-4 pieces of black plum (Wu Mei), 20g of yellow beans (Huang Dou), 20g of white lentils (Bai Bian Dou), 20g of green beans (Lu Dou), and 2 tablespoons of white sugar. Place the black plum and beans in a pot, add five bowls of water, and simmer on low heat until only two bowls of water remain, then add white sugar to drink.

Fish Border Point: Stimulating Lung Meridian Vitality
In spring, whether it is wind-cold or wind-heat, the lungs are the first to receive the signal. Therefore, the focus of prevention can be placed on the lung meridian, to smooth the lung meridian and stimulate its vitality, increasing its ability to resist external pathogens.
The lung meridian’s external pathway ends at the radial side of the thumb, which is the area of the fish border point (Yu Ji). This point is the ying point of the lung meridian, treating body heat, internal fire, nighttime cough, and poor sleep, often waking up between 3-5 AM; massaging the fish border point is very effective.
Daily rubbing of the fish border point is equivalent to nurturing the lung meridian. The operation is relatively simple and convenient, using both hands to rub against each other, alternating up and down, slowly and rhythmically, until the skin feels slightly warm.
